I've noticed a couple of quirks with the site - I hadn't used it for a while, so I wanted to flag the following:

the default category for new posts is now the Book Club. There is now an ever-increasing number of posts in this category which have nothing to do with the book club
I can't write posts anymore with an iPad; the the text editor doesn't seem to support iPads, although it's fine with an iPhone.

Stroud Green - Planning Applications

On behalf of the Conservation Area Advisory Committee (CAAC), I receive a weekly list of all planning applications in the London Borough of Haringey, subdivided by ward. Shortly I should be receiving updates for Islington too.

As a little experiment, I’m going to post new applications on Stroud Green.org. If anyone has any comments that fall within the purview of the CAAC I may summarise them for discussion at our committee meetings.

In order to access the plans, one need only go here, paste in the reference number below, and voila. Any difficulties please do let me know.

Lorne Road - terrible smell

It was there in the summer and went but there is again a terrible bad stink in the few houses outside our flats. My family came today for a meal and were gutted with the stench and want me to go back to N6! The council are not answering the phone and we is worried it will be worse and worse. I'm actually moving soon so it not a long term worry but I can't help thinkin there is a a fault with the sewage system or something horrible is rotting around there. Any ideas?

Spammers really are relentless, aren't they?

A few russians getting through, clearly using an automated system to test for vulnerabilities. All a bit tedious really. I like the word "Haubqueuemy" though, which one of them used as a thread title. It sounds like a lake in New England that you're supposed to pronounce "Hup-chew-armee".

Greetings

What do people know about these organisations? What experiences, if any, have you had with them?

I have heard only rumour of the SGRA before, and know nearly nothing about it. I hear they are especially active on the 'Upper East Side' and deliver a newsletter, but I've been living on Mount View for two years and have never received it.

I'm trying to get to grips with the various overlapping magisteria in the area. With changes to planning law this may be about to become extremely important.

Hi everyone,

i thought i would start a new thread for the shop as people are always asking for things and inboxing me.

I must say thanks again to everyone uses the shop, especially my regular customers.

If anyone does need anything or has any questions please post on here and i will reply asap.

As for chris who came in this morning, we actually have monkey nuts (peanuts) in the shop. Sorry about the confusion.

And those who are after rhubarb, i will have some in the next couple days. It is in fact forced rhubarb this time of year. Outdoor rhubarb should be availble april.

I did do a search for a thread about it specifically, but couldn't see one. Apologies if there is one already.

I know it's not a new pub for those who've been on here a while but I think it's great, and much improved. They have some really nice ales on at the moment (try inferno) and it's a good place for watching football without being too lary.

The food is nice, and the staff are too. Definitely my favourite local at the moment.

I don't work there by the way!

FINSBURY PARK STATION SIGNAGE PETITION

At the moment visitors any of the residences and businesses close to the Wells Terrace exit stand a 33% chance of getting utterly lost when they exit the underground platform. Those stats aren't good!

The reason is that there are three exits from the platforms; two state 'Way Out / Piccadilly & Victoria Lines' from which you can then follow signs to Wells Terrace, one states "Way Out / Rail" which spits you out at the front entrance having given no option for Wells Terrace.

TFL have stated to us that the signage at Finsbury Park station meets their stringent requirements and that the Wells Terrace exit is "unmissable". Obviously their guidelines need readdressing. Please help us put pressure on TFL to change the signage - it's not rocket science. All they need to do is specificy that there is no exit to Wells Terrace from the 'Way Out / Rail' exit.

Just popped into my local convenience store for something for lunch and fancied a snack. I love Twiglets. ( either you do or you don't. ) Picked up a 150 gram packet and was about to walk of when I realised the wanted £2.85! Thats almost 2p a gram for a wheat based snack. Thieving bastards. Damn I'm cross and the guy checking the price could see nothing wrong. Maybe I'm just loosing it.

I have noticed that if one is not logged in to this site, the times that messages are sent seem to be always in the wee small hours, I think this is because the times are set to West Coast time by default. However, once you log in, times change to more reasonable UK timings, it would be good to know when messages have been sent, since I tend to disregard messages with (for example) an 04.17am time tag. Any chance of taking a look at this?

Any suggestions on the best vantage points locally? I'm guessing Mount View Road might be best, or would it be better to head up to Ally Pally?

Strike of the Omnibus

So, if the bus strike does go ahead tomorrow, I wonder wether we'll really see overcrowding on the tube (and resulting temporary tube station closures) - or whether this is just scaremongering by Bob Crow.

ETA: During the last tubular strike I was all worried about the possible disruption, and nothing happened. So maybe this time I should just not worry. But if I do that then maybe fate will disrupt my journey just to spite me...

Budgens food stalls closed down by Haringey - boo!

I know this is over the hill but I'm sure this is of interest to many Stroud Greeners. A big row is going on about the local food produce and craft stalls that regularly appear outside Budgens in Crouch End. They are cheap to hire and Budgens more or less runs them as a community resource, and I know they're very popular with local people - home made jewellery, home-produced food, local artists and crafts, photographs of Crouch End, that sort of thing.

They're on Budgens land and properly administered. Well grumpy old Haringey has decided this is one Budgens initiative it wants to stifle and some overpaid, over-zealous officer has found some by-law or other to enforce against against it. They've been closed down. Budgens is putting up a fight, and getting a lot of support, but even if the stalls do open up again they'll probably be much more expensive to hire, so defeating the whole object. Watch out for imported Chinese jewellery and tacky sweat shirts, not genuine local stuff.

Do the expressions red tape, pointless bureaucracy and jobsworths spring to mind?

Fantastic new restaurant in Crouch End

There's an amazing new restaurant in Crouch End, I went there today but I can't remember what it's called, it's opposite the Queen;s pub and it begins with an M. It's just opened and the food is fantastic. I asked and it's a family run business and the head chef trained under Marco Pierre White, really delicious high quality food. English and mediterranean, I had roast duck breast, my father had asparagus soup. So stupid I can't remember the name but anyway keep an eye out for it.
