Syllogism

edited May 2009 in Local discussion
I discovered this word today. Anyone else not know it without googling? Or is that just my lack of education shining through? Despite being impressed by it, I still think that I should be able to read sports reviews without coming across such a word.

Sports reviews are normally an easy read. A syllogism is a complex construct. Therefore, one would not normally expect to find a syllogism in a sports review.

It was around questioning the quality of the current Champions League format seeing as non-champions can enter it and in Barcelona's case, win it. It then proceeded with a counter argument around the European cup c.78 format and then put the two together somehow into another argument and declared the syllogism flawed.

I got lost half way but wandered off to wiki to find out what a syllogism was in the faint hope that it might help me understand the terrible over-analysis.

There was me thinking it was 2-0 to the better team and not much else to be said.

It was in my degree, so I understand it. Or do I?
