When you've got two popular competitors you have to be good and get it really right to succeed. A good example here would be the Noble, to the extent it's become my preferred of the Larrik/Dairy/Noble triangle (I still go to the others, mind.)
The Noble established itself by smartly thinking through what its offering. Venezia hasn't done anything like this to get itself into the Pappa/Porchetta ring.
Hey Medi, do you work there, or own it?
These plugs could be done much better you know. Check out Ariela and her 'blug' on the woes of Pappaggone (still waiting for those home truths by the way), or the unapologetic Chaps and Dames thread from Kelly-Marie. Don't push it though.
Even if they do actually do the best pizza in London, shouty capitals man has put me right off.
I may try Venezia again, but in terms of support you are usually only going to get one chance from most people.
Certainly I can't be fagged to waste time and money on a repeat of a sub-mediocre experience when I could have a guaranteed very enjoyable experience at Dotori, Petek, Jai Krishna.
The only reason I will try again is that I think SG is now rather a barren wasteland on the pizza front - I have given up on Pizza P and La Porc.
Go Steve.
Dissent is where it's at.
All opinions welcome steve, though I'd suggest the only comments on this board that may have negatively affected trade for Venezia were made by Medi himself.
I'm also not adverse to Venezia. Wouldn't eat in but their take-way is fine. It has the massive advantage of staying open later than the other pizza places (I'm thinking til midnight but could be wrong?)
What would massively boost them for me is if they actually did do pasta dishes to deliver (as the sign outside seems to imply)
I have had pizza from Venezia loads of times and I have to say it's always been excellent. Maybe the reason why some people don't like it is that they are used to the sloppy, stodgy variety from Pappagone/Porchetta (which I also like on occasion). Venezia is offering a different style of pizza with much better quality ingredients so they charge a higher price, which I think is fair. I have spoken to Medi a few times and he seems like a nice guy so I hope people stop giving him a hard time over his posts on here.
I have to agree that the restaurant itself isn't that appealing or comfortable but I don't mind it so much if I want a quiet meal without the full-on noise and craziness of the other two pizzerias.
Based on their food, I would highly reccomend Venezia, and urge people to give it a try as an alternative to the other two. They do takeaway and home delivery if you don't fancy eating in.
Strolling up SGR last night with the missus we decided to drop into Venezia. Excellent. Best pizza so far in Stroud Green (I’m yet to try La Porchetta). Ordered a salad t0o which was top-notch, the dressing was incredible. I took a takeaway menu and intend to use it! It’s not the classiest of environments inside, but the friendly gent serving (who I suspect was Medi) said he was planning to move the bar to make more room. My only peeve, however minor, was that it took longer than my patience threshold of 5 minutes to bring the two beers that we initially ordered, but I’m not a tolerant man when I’m thirsty. It was nice to see the pizza dough being made in front of us while we waited. Really wide range of pizzas, and the ingredients were fresh and seriously tasty. Bravo. A
