I've always been taken by the map imagines <a href="http://www.steveprentice.net/tube/TfLSillyMaps/southlondontube.jpg">if the network had developed south of the river rather than north,</a> a really good illustration of the importance of transport links & the way London has grown up around them ... (Finsbury Park still makes it)
