Mobile broadband

Weirdly, Vodafone mobile broadband seems to have a gap in their network coverage around my home. I don't though live in a field in Scotland. Or 10 feet underground. Instead, live just off Crouch Hill.

Anyone else in the area have problems with their coverage? Or able to confirm that another supplier works ok in the area?

I can tell you that O2 3G off Oakfield road is "woeful".

[edit: in theory works (ofcom coverage maps show it as 'good'), but in reality it doesn't].

I've got a great idea: why don't they erect a phone mast on the covered reservoir?

I'd rather live in a pleasant area and not have mobile broadband, than have masts on the reservoir.

3G is very lazy and is easily incommoded by structures - this is probably your issue.

use this site [sitefinder](http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/), find out where the base station is, and then cut a hole in the bottom of a pringles can put the dongle inside with the usb cable going out of the hole, connect via 5m extension using mains powered hub if necessary. As in these many examples and howtos [google results for pringles 3g signal](http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=pringles+can+3g+signal&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)

Drat, I was using a supermarket own brand. Will use proper Pringles tub next time.

@tosscat - fine use of the word incommoded. No totally sure what it means, but most impressed.

@markpack - I'd be very wary of all those map things too. But the only one I've heard there are probs with round these parts is vodafone. A mate on the wrong side of SGR had exactly the same problem. Until he moved.
