I am amazed by Stroud Green
  • Its the most amazing place in London, and I've lived in Ealing, Edgware, Hendon and Willesden Green and I've been in most parts of London from Hammersmith, Stoke Newington, East Dulwich, West Hampstead, Camden .. enough.

Its just the amazing combination of colourful, wonderful people.
  • @MatthewF. Welcome.

Before you overdo it - just to let you know I can be a bit grumpy at times. Not often mind, but it's there.

  • I've only lived in a couple of places but its better than Croydon.
  • Wow. High Praise. @matthewf - you're clearly a well-travelled individual. Glad you've chosen to lay your hat here, as Paul Young would have sung.
  • I've lived in Camden, Finchley Road, Fitzrovia, Docklands, Kilburn, Highgate, Walthamstow and others ... the moment I moved into Stroud Green, it felt like home.
  • Hi, staplejack.

I've lived in Stroud Green for 15 years now, having previously been a resident of France, Portugal, Mexico and the US. I love the place but, let's face it, even Wells, Nevada (dried-up river bed, one shop, no bars, population 213 when I passed through) is better than Croydon!
  • Croydon has lots going for it - I miss it sometimes.

  • I only went to Croydon once. I bought a Roland drum machine from a vicar at his church. The locals had broken in and stolen the bands drums and guitars. So he decided to sell the rest and quit the spiritual music route. I imagine he went back to kumbaya, acapella style.

  • Im currently in Croydon (near crystal palace but still borough of croydon) and Im glad to be moving back to SG! I miss it soooo much it's where I grew up.
I've kinda gone full circle though as I started off on ferme pk rd then we moved to florence rd then I moved to SGR and now Im moving back to a flat off Ossian Rd!! My parents moved to Hornsey but my dad misses SGR more then my mum lol.
  • Croydon for me = Lunar House and the Home Office.... spent a hideous 8 hours to get my visa changed when I got married and it put me off Croydon forever. I♥N4.

  • "Welcome to Croydon - home of Nestle"

So says the sign at the train station. What kind of claim to fame is that?

Nestle's social irresponsibility is so well documented that I'm staggered that they approved the sign. It made me want to leave, until I saw a tram!
  • Ah the trams :)
  • Except during summer when they're like greenhouses.

  • I moved to Stroud Green from Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Home from home you might say.
  • So, when are we going to start our own currency and become a transition town?
  • Let's move straight to border control ...
  • That involves defining the borders, and we've been there before...

  • interesting previous conversations found through the search facility: one here and another here and one more here

  • Well done wisteria53, a lesson to us all.

  • It's all thanks to your example, tosscat - I was determined to learn how to do this markdown stuff.

  • And look how you used the search function.

  • I have a stroudgreen.org CSE (I can do markdown after 3 failed attempts and then looking up how). Can tosscat outline the O and A level pass requirements? Is that clever search thing O Level?

  • @# wisteria53 how do you do those little quirky 'teenage speak hearty things?' Don't seem to have them on my plain old keyboard
  • I ♥ Google when researching stuff like this!

  • @ Alex - how do you make the little hearts? as in I "heart" N4? I would so "heart" to know....
  • Alt - '3' on your numeric keypad only.

  • i ♥ u tosscat ☺ thanks
  • @sahara_dessert

I had posted quite a few of them on the Making Links and Images page as well for easy cut/paste:

Sorry for not replying in December; it gets busy around Christmas!

  • Oi, Wisteria53......did you know Sahara means big desert?

  • and dessert is what you eat after meals. So sahara_dessert means big desert sweets?

  • Is the reference to colourful people in the first post a bit racist?
  • Don't be silly
