It's already melting, which is presumably going to ice up overnight.
Small front wheel drive are skidding and wheelspinning all over the place.
If you stuck going up a hill in a front wheel drive car turn around and reverse up, works most times !
Interesting tip Ali. Front wheel drive should theoretically be better in the snow. The problem with most modern cars is traction control or the equivalent. If you do get stuck, turn it off and the wheels should be able to do their work a lot better. There should be a little button somewhere near the gear stick with an acronym on (it'll probably be the one you always wondered what it did).
The best way to work out if your car is better with it on or off is to find a nice empty snowy car park and drive around it practising.
Another tip, if you get really stuck with wheels dug in, use your car footmats: wedge them under the wheels and they should be able to gain some traction, drive on stop where you are less likely to get stuck and go back for the mats (which may now need a clean).
