Rage Against The Machine June 6th
  • Tom Morello says that they'll be playing a free concert in Finsbury Park on that date.
Before I get a screenful, I'm just passing the news on. I'm not posting this as a fan
  • Go on, you can admit to liking them.

Is this the free "thank you for the christmas number one" gig?

The VICTORY PARTY TO END ALL PARTIES RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE ANNOUNCE FREE GIG

"A historic grassroots rebellion made our song 'Killing in the Name' the number one Christmas single of 2009. The people of the UK toppled the X-Factor giant, raised a great deal of money for homeless charities, and shocked the world. As a thankyou to our UK fans and freedom fighters we promised to play a free show. Well...here we come. June 6th, Finsbury Park, the celebration/party/revolution is ON!!" - Tom Morello

The excitement of this announcement is huge, a special Rage Against the Machine concert will be taking place at Finsbury Park in London on Sunday the 6th June. The gig has come about off the back of the band defeating the predictable tradition of singer wins X Factor, singer’s debut single goes straight into becoming the Christmas No1. • My 10 year old nephew's best buddy is the son of the people who started that Rage Against the Machine facebook campaign!
  • Wasn't one of them a 'former' Sony employee?

I'm half-tempted to apply just on the grounds that the support might be decent, but then I read the bit where they call the buyers of their corporate rebellion simulator "freedom fighters" and it makes me feel that no support act in the world would be worth getting involved.
  • No, one works in telecoms and one is a photographer. Nothing to do with Sony as far as I know.
  • Flip you I won't do what you tell me!!

    Mother Filippa!!

I'll register and pretend that I'm 18 again... but may well have to lamp a few Trusty-Crusties there as well..

Is this the crappest claim to fame ever?

I was the best man at the wedding of a guy whose second cousin used to be in Scritti Politti.

  • It wasn't a claim to fame, just a statement of fact. If I wanted to talk about famous people I know or have seen I would just start a thread called Top Celeb Spot.

    I liked Scritti Politti.
  • I was the person who called Going Live and called 5 star 'Fucking Crap'

So my claim to fame is I spoke to Phillip Schofield..
  • @miss annie - i wasn't having a go, it just made me smile!

JFJ - you are Elliot Fletcher? There's a lot of anger in there given that they were a reasonably inoffensive kids band. And "Rain or Shine" was very much of its time.

  • @andy
That's the problem with speaking online, without being able to hear the tone of voice one can sometimes take things the wrong way.

I have a really, really crap 5 Star item too! I lived in Romford for a while when I was young 'un at school and the pre fame 5 star siblings were always honing their dance routines (aka busking) round the fountains in the shopping centre. Oh, the glamour.

Having seen them with my very own eyes I can say that Jungle Face Jake was spot on.
  • I know a man who is currently in Scritti Politti, and will in fact be seeing him play in one of his other bands this evening. Not far from SG, either. Spooky, eh?
  • Jungle, I remember that Going Live moment. You are a star! Xx
  • It wasn't really me, it was nice to hear how much everyone hates 5 star again.. they were shit!

wish it was me though, at that time I was about 8 and didn't know those bad words.
I haven't stopped using them since...
  • ADGS - do you mean Rhodri? Gentlemen's Agreement are smoooooooth.

  • I knew Rod Hull's niece. As a child she was the one in The Pink Windmill who used to go and answer the door when everyone chanted 'There's somebody at the door, there's somebody at the door.'

I know, you're all in awe of me.

  • Tom Morello's twitter just offered this alert:

UK! Clock is ticking down! Midnite tonite is deadline to register for free Rage tix for Finsbury Park, June 6th. www.theragefactor.co.uk
  • Mapsa - indeed I do, and indeed they are. Which made for quite an incongruous mix with the dear old Buffalo Bar.
