What political party are you going to vote for in 6May local election?
  • What political party are you going to vote for in the 6th May 2010 local election and why in Islington and Haringey boroughs?

Why do I ask? I want to learn about local politics.

I live in the borough of Islington by SG Rd.

I don't know anything about local politics in borough of Islington or Haringey and have never voted before in Islington.

I will have a guess and vote Conservative in the local election.I will vote Conservative in the general election (maybe also on 6th May) for reasons that I would prefer not to say, well ok,immigration n crime will be cut by the tories is my guess,no offense to anyone...

Issues that are of interest to me are: which political party gets the lifts fixed and rubbish cleared in the social housing (council estates) of Islington borough. And which party won't do really high council tax.

Some voters say in some London areas " we are traditionally Labour voters but we will vote Conservative because the tories are better at getting the lifts fixed and the rubbish cleared and the vandalism fixed on council estates (social housing) so we don't enjoy it but we will vote tory locally to ensure the area gets managed better."

Local Labour councils are seen to waste money and give high council tax.

Are you sure that you are registered to vote in the local and probably the general election on 6th May? How do you do that then?

Bit drunk after a few ales so hope all this makes some sort of sense... hic!

  • Nigel Farage has some very compelling arguments.
  • My MP is Jeremy Corbyn, who having hosted a show on Iranian state TV is now as far beyond the pale as the BNP, so any chance there may ever have been of my voting for him is out. But since I don't fancy Cameron as PM either, this probably leaves me casting another unenthusiastic vote for the Lib Dems. Like Mae West said, when faced with a choice of evils, I go for the one I've not tried yet.
  • The Tories have no chance of taking Islington or Haringey so there's not much point in voting for them. They're both Lib/Lab marginals.

    I hope this helps.
  • And it would take a Liberal landslide to unseat Jeremy Corbyn's in Islington North. Hornsey and Wood Green went Labour to Lib Dem at the last election so expect a Lib Dem hold.
  • I really dislike the whole concept of tactical voting. If people had been so defeatist about breaking a duopoly a century ago, then the party which has been in power for the past 13 years would never have had a chance.
  • The majority of labour voters at the time of the first three Labour governments would not have had the vote at the start of the 20th century. The growth of Labour was closely tied to the expansion of the franchise.

Tactical voting can be very useful indeed with our crappy electoral system, especially if you're not a Tory.
