Walking up from tube today, saw John Jones were having a "jumble sale"... A massive warehouse clearance... tons and tons of beautiful picture frames, from £3 upwards - most 10 quid though. All sorts of styles, lots of sets of matching ones, plain wood, guilded baroque style, plain black, silver, you name it. I had to make a return visit. Mostly big ones - measuring 50cm plus, well worth a browse!

Oh bumchops, why does everything happen when I'm away? I am desperate for picture frames and the larger and more baroque the better. Did you notice if it's just this weekend?

We still have lots of very cheap and very beautiful frames for sale - anyone who is interested should let me know and we'll organise to open the store room up for a rummage. There are some absolute bargains - plus various art supplies (stretched canvases, brushes, primers).

@applehead - we miss the art materials shop too! was such a great team and lovely artist clients... but we just couldn't compete with online discount prices. where do you get your materials from now? cass art seems pretty ambitious - just opened a big store in hampstead and wants to go national - and always seems to be offering huge discounts.
we're going to open on another weekend soon - just need to plan it in, but in the meantime if you want to pop in during the week at all just email me kate.jones@johnjones.co.uk and i can arrange for someone to open up the storeroom. -
'Art for Art's sake' in Muswell Hill is quite good for art and craft materials. I'm a big fan of Cowling and Wilcox in Soho though and prefer them to Cass.

I've just had a look around the store room again and there is LOADS of good stuff - some really large frames as well as small. gilded silver, gold, aluminium, wood.... plus lots of art, some really fantastic b&w and colour photography, artist stretchers, glazes and ad hoc bits and pieces. we could open for a couple of hours on sat 25 september in the morning if enough people are interested - 10am - 12pm.

I'm afraid we're not going to open this Saturday - down to personal circumstances at the moment. But I promise we will open on a Saturday very soon, just for the stroudgreen.org members and I will post the date and times a few weeks in advance so everyone has lots of notice.

We are opening every Saturday throughout November from 10am to 4pm! Please let friends and family know - lots of frames, artwork, canvases, artist brushes, primers etc.... Cash and cheque only.

Kate, are there any elaborate, large gold or silver frames left and do you have coloured inks or acrylic paints for sale? Despite living just around the corner and walking past the sign most days, I forgot that this was on.

@miss annie, they did have a couple of medium-sized elaborate gold frames in the main room but the vast majority were plain. There was a back room with very large frames but I think those were mostly plain as well. The prices were excellent - from £3 for medium frames.

Thanks Jenowl, I don't really do plain but I'll canter round and have a look this weekend. I got some corkers last time for about a tenner a go.
