2nd September 2006: Richard Ingrams column criticises the Daily Mail for"bogus hysteria", because it is running "one of its vociferous front-page campaigns, this time against the growth of junk mail which, according to the paper, threatens all of us". It is, he suggests, no big deal and the only thing worth calling junk is perhaps, the Daily Mail itself.

2nd September 2006: Front page of the Independent. "THE JUNK MOUNTAIN" - Britons receive 21 billion pieces of junk mail every year. "This is a massive problem that does require some kind of government regulation".

Does anyone even bother to read the paper before they send it to the printers?
