    When I started in I.T. I soon discovered the magic solution to fixing nearly everything - turn it off, go make a cup of tea, turn it back on. Things i've fixed today by doing this:

    Laptop, Desktop, Telephone, Kettle, Photocopier.

    That's a lot of tea.

    The thing is, David, I think everyone who doesn't work in IT knows that trick now. When people in my office call IT, the first sentence includes the problem quickly followed by 'and, before you ask, yes, I have turned it off and on again'.

    But Liz, if everyone knew that trick now, they wouldn't call me to turn it off and on again for them. Furthermore, I would chant to them:

    What's the first rule of I.T. club?: reboot.

    What's the second rule of I.T. club?: reboot again.

    It's like they sublimely know they should reboot but innately assume it doesn't apply this time.

    What sort of people work in your office? I thought all office workers in the Western world had figured it out by now. So much the better for you though - you look like an IT God and get to drink lots of tea.
