    You see, the misunderstanding of what markdown actually is vindicates my initial post entirely. I'm now going to build a link into how to use it, just to win this fiver. Possibly the worst paid hour of my life but so what.

    I said no-one would use markdown. I said this because it was my assumption that no-one would know what markdown was or how to use it.

    the fact that Liz then hits the markdown button, without using any markdown in her post, exactly proves my point.

    If you're going to spoonfed people markdown instructions, then I claim that as a moral (and actual) victory.

    Its double of either Asterisk or Underscore for bold and single or either for italics. I've updated those tips above.

    bloody hell, that is far too complicated! and I like computer geeky stuff (obviously not in quite the same league as you two though).

    Why don't you make it like that web thing andy was showing me yesterday where it had the bold and italics as buttons above the comment box (also like moonfruit, which andy says is gay)

    haven't mentioned plum in this post.

    So theoretically this should be italics

    and this should be bold

    If it doesn't work, I'll have to start a new discussion titled 'can anyone teach me how to use markdown?'
