  • Every radio station, every channel, has been swamped with Mandela hagiography all night. We are in for a Princess Di moment. It makes you sick to hear all the bad guys lining up with their 2 pennorth of hypocritical drivel (over to you, Prime Minister). But I confess I feel the same way. For me, he is a second Gandhi. Anyone agree? No-one has mentioned G so far.
  • Much better than Gandhi. Gandhi has been deified, but his reputation deserves much more scrutiny than it gets in most quarters. See also 'Mother' Theresa.
  • I think we sometimes forget that the people we revere are human with all the accompanying flaws. If we delve a bit we often find some really quite unpleasant character traits in our heroes.

  • I agree Matt completely. Watching Cameron in China this week made my skin crawl.
  • I think Cameron got it about right, but cant wait until the mass murderer Blair pops his clogs will be signing dancing and hoping he burns in hell. As for Mr Mandela a great man who's legacy will never be forgotten.

  • I don't think there is anyone remotely approaching his stature alive today. One of the greatest of men.

@djmattyoung I'll be very surprised if Margaret Thatcher is paying tributes today! Weird how people are reposting that lie about David Cameron without bothering at all to check.
  • Fact-checking is so old media.
  • Went to sign the condolences book at the South Africa High Commission this morning.<div>One of the greatest men - he leaves a great legacy.</div><div>Agree with the posts about hypocritical comments, especially from BoJo.</div>
