Not being egotistical here - as I don't see it myself - but people often tell me how I look like Simon Pegg. Including a guy who went to school with him. I think it's just that I usually have stubble, glasses and wear a beanie.

Neil Morrisey has also been seen hanging out in The Nobel. I also remember sitting next to him and Adrian Dunbar in the White Lion probably about 15 years ago or so. The White Lion was the trendy pub of the area then. Full of Guardian readers and it even featured in the Sunday Observer as being what a pub of the future would be ! had a picture of the big round table that used to be in there. It went down hill when the Irsh pub that is now Nandos closed and Weatherspoons changed it into a post Macdonald architecture !

For the Nobel you have to thank Weathspoons as they converted in from an Off Licence into Marlers Bar, it used to get absolutely packed, Being the Nobel on Friday night brought back days of nostalgia

@ Tabbie - I'm starting to think we need to start a separate thread for this! It was 1989-93, roughly. If you were there at the same time, then we were probably in the orchestra together, as I was in Springwood Orchestra, Concert Band and WNJYO Orchestra. Scary small world. Nightlife mainly consisted of the Wens, or Knights Hill, and the odd visit to the cheesy clubs in town which I can't remember the names of. You?

Mr Woolley. He was a strange man. I played in his string ensemble too, which basically involved playing Pachalbel's Canon in as many Norfolk churches as possible. If you only started going to the Wenns in 1993 then you're probably younger than me (or didn't start drinking until you were 18, which would have been very restrained!).

I realize this may sound like a ridiculous question, but is Stroud Green always scattered with celebrities? I admit I've only met one, Howie Day...don't know if he's well known in Britain. I made the brutal mistake of telling him I was a fan before anyone even knew who he was. I blame it on the nerves.

It depends what you define as celebrities. From Glyn's list, I would say that only one of them is properly famous (Pegg). Him and McAvoy are SG A list. John Simm would be B list. The rest are much more low rent: two ex Eastenders, one newsreader, one reality-TV-show-contestant-from-ages-ago, one so-so TV presenter and someone out of an indie band. So, no need to feel concerned really.

@ Glyn, this is not to diss your list, just to reassure krazykappa that he won't spend his whole time feeling nervous in the golden land of Stroud Green...

Most of the "celebs" live in the northern (tube-less) part of Stroud Green called Crouch End. They occasionally come South for our better pubs, transport etc.

As Liz says, the celebs ( apart from a few ) aren't A list, unless you watched a lot of TV in the 80s.
