Moray Rd Barrier

What are the rules/law regrading removal of road barriers does anyone know? The one between Moray Rd and Burnam Rd has been opened for months, I'm assuming someone has got a copy of the key. People are now starting to realise that it's open and are flying down the road. Walking past today I noticed that the locking post had been cut off, so there is now no way to close and lock the gate. Would the council just decide to remove the gate and not contact the local community beforehand? Can they do that? Or is it just someone with a few power tools? Somebody will get knocked down on Moray Rd, and the longer the gate is kept open the more traffic there will be.

  • @Detritus. I live next to this barrier and it has been open on an off now for the last 18 months. I am not sure who to notify at the council but cars do use it as a short cut to seven sisters road. The only advantage of having the gate open is that in the evening when people come and exchange packages for money they dont have to do three point turns to get out quickly. They always seem in a hurry to get out.
  • God these cat nip peddlers are brazen.

  • Complaint sent.<div><br></div><div>Its a shame there isn't a safe designated place for people to buy drugs. Drug sales are now part of GDP calculations. According to the ONS it is a £6.3 billion industry. Why don't we follow scientific evidence legalise and regulate certain drugs and make it safer for everyone. Its a win win. </div>
  • I've emailed Flora Willamson (Finsbury Park labour councillor and helpful soul). A few more people complaining won't do any harm. I hadn't noticed that they'd actually lopped off the post until Detritus pointed it out.
  • <u>Update: Flora's told the relevant Council Officers and will get back to me again when she has news.</u>
  • Fixed! Good work Flora.
  • Cracking, but I do wonder how long it will take before it's open again.
  • If it is, we'll get it fixed again. Thanks for noticing it, Detritus.
  • I think someone's opened it again. The yellow lock doesn't seem to be that difficult to break...
  • Locked again, I think.
  • Gate open this morning! Shall we complain again?
  • Yes. I think some of the council staff are leaving it open.
  • Have tweeted. Also helps if you close it when you see it open.
  • Complaint made this morning. I hope they fix it again soon

  • Will they put a gate CCTV up?
  • Leave it open, put a CCTV on there and then enforce.  Will make the council money in no time.<br><br>Why do some people have access to the key for the gate? Thought it would only be emergency services/refuse collection.<br>
  • I don't think it was opened with a key N19
  • So it's just an unlocked gate...?<br>
  • No, there's a padlock with a key that Council/Partners staff can use.
  • Looks like the barrier is locked again

Are you guys serious about some bloody barrier?  Try living on a main road with people shouting outside and buses going by. This is getting tedious.  <div><br></div><div>If you're so angry about it rip it out.  </div>
  • Sorry if we offend you, I was obviously under the misapprehension that this site is about the local community and the things that mattered to them. But I don't fully understand why you want to read this tedious thread. And if you don't like where you live, move its not that difficult.
  • I imagine the point is that they don't live on a main road but because the barrier keeps being broken/opened you get lots of through traffic....?<div><br></div><div>This is my favourite thread at the moment, who knows what each day will bring.  Will it be open, locked or broken...?</div>
  • Detritus, it's hardly a big problem.  You have a quiet road and you probably get a few more cars coming through just cause the barrier was broken.  I agree it should remain locked but it's hardly a bit headache.  Baffles me.
  • As it's a quiet road with lots of long term residents, a lot of children play in the street - it's like those play streets people were enthusing about. My main concern with the barrier left off is that someone will get hit by a car - the kids aren't used to looking out for cars whizzing up and down this road, it's always been safe. Also, with the gate off, it's a cut through from Hornsey Rd to Fonthill so there is potential for a lot of traffic. That's presumably why the gate was put there in the first place.
  • I'm all for the barrier.  You should have a protest.  A silent one.  Put make-shift barriers at both ends. Some of the locals like Checkski and Detritus could have chess game.  Other ideas are silent competitions (who can remain silent the longest).  There could be mime and maybe John Cage's famous silent track could be played.  <div><br></div><div>Reclaim the Silence.</div>
  • Gosh, wouldn't have thought an old school socialist would advocate a silent anything. Don't think it warrants a demo, email seems to work very well.
  • Annie, old school methods are subject to revision according to article 3.1 of the socialist handbook.  And good luck with the emails.  When I win the lottery, I'll move there.
