New ITV1 Documentary Series looking for participants.

<div>Hi all<br><br>(Posting with permission from the moderator)<br>I work for a BAFTA Award winning TV Production company called Love Productions (www.loveproductions.co.uk). We’re currently making a new prime-time series for ITV1 and are looking for people who would like to talk to us about potentially taking part.<br><br>The series will look at life at home today on a mixed street; we will get to know the people who are filming with us and see from different perspectives all the things that unite us: family relationships, work stresses and joys, conversations over the dinner table, what makes us happy and what makes us sad. <br><br>In London, only 1 in 10 of us count our neighbours as friends and so we want to film with a number of households on one street over six weeks in the summer to find out more about the people that live there. We’d then like to offer those people the opportunity to gain an insight into each other’s lives and see whether this makes a difference to their relationships with each other. Be warned of “award winning“ love productions. They made the programme benefits street which incorrectly portrayed people living on benefits. They picked extreme cases and focussed entirely on people on unemployment benefit (<3%). It was a disgrace and fed into daily mail stereotypes.

I'm no fan of that show, but even some left-wing commentators have noted that it did put a human face on the issues, as well as create a helpful debate.

Haven't seen any of the shows, but I must say I also didn't see much sign of helpful debate in the aftermath. And I would be very unhappy to make any contribution to their profits. (Speaking as an old lefty, obviously.)

seems they do a wide range of programmes like Bake Off , Sewing Bee  etc and have won lots of Industrt awards from their peers

I only saw the last 20 mins of the show and didn't really understand how it had got to that point.  THe biggest problem people seemed to have to have was the name immigrant street - I can understand why as it often has such negative connotations but I think this is a real shame as it should be something to be celebrated.  I wonder if they'd named it Diversity Street they would have more success, albeit sounding like something David Brent would come up with.  It is an interesting idea, I'm fascinating by how different people assimilate into British life and it could have had the potential to be very interesting. <br>

@N19 - the main issue is that they are focussing on the extremes  of poorer end of immigration which feeds into UKIP/Daily Mail stereotypes which does not reflect the evidence based positivity that immigration has in the UK. I wish they would come and film the University that I work in. Science is booming in the UK and we are attracting the best scientists from around the world. Their skills as well as financial and cultural benefits are huge to the UK.

Sutent has it! <br><br>I was at a round-table event last night to discuss the legacy of the great sociologist <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulrich_Beck">Ulrich Beck</a>. They were discussing the lived experience of cosmopolitanisation, and how it is eroding the reality of the nation state. At one point Tony Giddens turned to the audience and and said (and I paraphrase) "just look at you, people from forty different nations, talking together, living together, loving together, raising children together - you are the future, can the idea of the homogeneous nation state withstand this new empirical reality?" And I thought to myself - no, no it can't, and that's a bloody good thing.<br><br>All gloriously Londoncentric of course, and all the better for it.
