I think the Woody's Empire might ride out the storm having diversified into kebabs and newspapers, but I fear for the Wig World conglomerate.

Wouldn't we need some kind of representative poll to sort this out. e.g.:

In a climate of global economic turmoil and uncertain financial futures* in what order would you cut the following three things out of your budget**:

    1) Kebabs
    2) Wigs
    3) Weird varieties of olive

*just to note that I would not like to join the sirens in talking us into recession - this is merely a hypothetical to test the micro-market of Stroud Green Road.

**all other things being equal i.e. position of shop on Stroud Green Road, colour of shop front, and all other devious marketing tricks. Also assuming you like olives. And Kebabs. And that you have a healthy natural head of hair.

the pizza chains are obviously struggling.

and the cheap tat shop/pound shop near the White Lion has thrown in the towel too, a la Chrysos.

I reckon the weird olives would be first to go as wigs and kebabs have lived through recessions before around here and the local demography hasn't changed that much.

Stroud Green wouldn't be Stroud Green without wigs and kebabs.

Speaking of wigs and stroud green - have you seen where stroudgreen.net takes you these days?

That is brilliant. Even domain squatters see SG as the wig capital of the world.
