Market Newsletter Sunday 9th June

10-2:30, Stroud Green School, Perth rd / Ennis rd, opposite the faltering fullback
www.stroudgreenmarket.com/thisweek

Dear everyone,

I hope you’re all well and enjoying the June showers (it’s been raining a touch over here inbetween bursts of beautiful sun). In fact the showers seem likely to hold off on Sunday and we’ve a new hot food stall along to help you linger. Steven’s Cambodian cookery was taught him by - among others - the woman in the above photo, and 6 years traveling in the country inspired him late last year to open his own street food show.

A word about beetroot. The Dynamic Organics stall brought up a grand total of 9 bunches last week (well he’s only got 3 acres) and Tyler sold it quickly so you might well have missed it. It is, though, the most fresh and delicious I’ve ever tasted: you can even eat the leaves as a salad without any bitterness of flavour and the heads themselves are also wonderful either raw or roasted.

Finally, PAO Pickles has at last been fully converted to the Stroud Green Market and from now until the summer break will be attending every week. Alongide the famous kimchi she’s going to be selling her own water kefir, beautifully pink and sour-sweet, and a range of other ferments and hot sauces. If you haven’t met Pao before she’s easy to spot: very trendy shades and generally the best dressed person in the playground! Clive Ovenden, the man from the marsh, comes a very close second.

See you on Sunday.

Ed
