    I have been banned
    Haunted house television programmes
Take part in a discussion and earn £20!

Researchers from the University of Westminster are conducting a study on television programmes such as Most Haunted, Derren Brown’s Trick of the Mind, or related television, films or websites. During April 2008 we would like to interview you (for one and a half hours, with others) to talk about these programmes. We are interested in discussing what you think of ghost investigations, mediums, magic and illusions in the media. In today’s society, why do we still have a fascination in traditional ghost stories?

This is a non-commercial project, led by Annette Hill who is writing a book about ghosts in contemporary society and culture. Please be assured your confidentiality would be respected and no names would be used in the project. Your input will be invaluable to our research.

The group interviews will take place over a series of evenings from Monday 7th April to Thursday 24th April, with the first session from 6pm-7.30pm and the second session from 8pm-9.30pm in the University’s Regent Street building at 309, Regent Street, London, W1B 2UW. You would only be required to attend one of the sessions.

We can provide light snacks and £20 to say thank you for your time and contribution.

If you are interested in taking part, please email Lizzie Jackson at [Go Away Spammy Spam Spam] indicating your interest and giving your contact details including the best telephone number to call you on, and a good time of day to call. We will telephone you to ask a few initial questions and organise a time for you to attend the group interviews.

We would love to know what you have to say on this subject.

Thanks, Annette Hill and Lizzie Jackson

Don't think we've ever been forum-spammed before. I'll leave this up in case any of you are interested but my initial reaction was to delete the post and the user.

In fact I think I'll turn it into a vote. I'm gonna sit on the fence with a good ol' Douchebagging.

What's Harry Hill got to do with it? I quite liked the bloke until he started presenting You've Been Framed - why oh why?

Anyway - £20 for 90 minutes?? Pah! I personally won't get out of bed for market research for less than £1 per minute. Douchebag and delete in my (free) opinion!

    It's vaguely interesting at least.

£20 is an offensively low fee. Even with free snacks.

    what dominic said.

if we're going to get spammed, i'd like it to be a by a better class of spammer than Derek bloody Acorah and for considerably more than twenty quid.

Personally, my preference is that we either delete these, unless they are i) properly relevant or ii) proper long term members, in which case I'm more inclined to cut them some slack.

    Is SG twinned with Sydenham?

So am I culling them? The vote is overwhelmingly to do so....? We've never had to do this before, it feels sad in a way.

I think we delete the account, remove the contact details from the post above and let it stand as a lesson to others, like heads on Traitor's Gate.

Do you have an 'I haven't been banned yet.' for me?

This site is far nicer than the Sydenham one ( both the website and N4 ).

Sydenham is a bit rubbish; it is miles away from anywhere.

Well, it is near Crystal Palace and Anerley, which don't really compare to Tottenham and Holloway.

    or do they, hmmmm...

Which begs the question, what is the Stroud Green of the South? Herne Hill?
    • CommentAuthorgeoff
    • CommentTimeMar 12th 2008

    No way.

There can't be a Stroud Green of the South. I left South London years ago and have never looked back.

You wouldn't get me south of the river for love nor money.

Nowhere is comparable to SG; it is in a league of its own.

Lewisham? Catford? South Norwood? Penge? Thamesmead?

Sounds like a litany of dire housing and no wig shops.

I think creating an account just for shilling something is poor form. If a genuine attempt is made to add to the forum to go alongside the "oh, and this is my job", then so be it.

    This, no dice.

So do I and so do most people who moderate forums.

Interestingly, the person who did it, doesn't.

Sorry, I've laughably implied that this forum is moderated.

It's Nuclear Moderation. All or nothing. We can ban you, but it's the only weapon we've got.

There is douchebagging, but it seems so ineffective. Banning is where its at.

Bit late to this - just back from holiday... As someone who works in market research, I can understand why they might have done this to save money (and hence the very low incentive payment too) but it would only have been polite to ask the forum owners first if they minded. Hmmm.

@Liz, you post would 50% funnier if you then shilled for some market research.
