Yes, it is a lamentable situation but the Labour Party has to take a long, hard look at itself after such a kicking.

As someone else said, some of its "eye-catching initiatives" such as ID cards, extending detention periods for terrorist suspects and especially the withdrawal of the 10p rate of tax are all regressive and ultimately pointless changes.

Therefore, when someone (even an idiot) takes up knife crime as the main issue in the mayoral campaign - it does actually touch on something that your average Londoner cares about.

I'm hoping that Labour can turn it around, but my head says that they're pretty much dead in the water for the next General Election.

He makes me laugh. He's a breath of fresh air. He makes politics interesting.

No, what I really meant was he's a nasty, lying, pompous, arrogant snob. And Glyn, I fear you are right.

All this vilifying of Boris is a bit panto. It's like reading an inverted Daily Mail. Labour and their voters need to put their toys back in their prams and think more about how to respond. I think there's an electoral cycle at play that pretty much renders them powerless however.

I think Glyn is right. Labour look screwed. We were at a stand up gig last night when the compere not only admitted to voting for Boris Johnson but did a serious little bit about why he was right for London.

When North London stand up comedians turn against you, it's time to pack up and go home.

The Guardian no, not normally, but I'd say yes over the last week. They were hysterical. I just think a bit of perspective is needed, rather than the mudslinging they stooped to in laughable attempts to paint Boris worse than Saddam.

Vivienne Westwood captured it perfectly for me - "Boris as mayor? Unthinkable. It just exposes democracy as a sham, especially if people don't vote for Ken - he's the best thing in politics. Unthinkable."

Democracy is a sham because the majority didn't vote for your guy? Huh?

Bizarre. I looked through these pictures and failed to understand the appeal. Then I came across the one below and haven't been able to stop laughing at it. Maybe there's something species-specific about the humour. Still don't find the Boris ones funny.
