Venezia
  • Has anyone tried the new Venzia Italian resturaunt yet? I've had a couple of pizzas from there recently (takeaway) and it's pretty damn good.

I think they're struggling for custom, give them a go, they're a friendly bunch too.

Also, they have a free beer per order deal on at the moment - which is nice.
  • Yes, i know, i spent restaurant incorrectly. I've always had trouble with that one!
  • Where the heck is Venezia?
  • It used to be called Le Bistro.
  • A few down from Nando's, near Petek

  • looks pretty bloody dodgy if you ask me. but as le bistro did a pretty decent fried breakfast, an acceptable panini and a good cup of coffee… anyone know if it's being run by the same people as before?
  • Lovely Pizzas!

Try them. The pizza guy used to work in Porchettas in Muswell Hill so knows how to make pizzas. The chef used to work somewhere in Knightsbridge at some fancy restaurant so quite good. BUT the pizzas are a must and give them support if you can!!!!!
  • All I know is that their menu is riddled with dodgy Italian. And that makes me deeply suspicious. If you can't actually speak Italian, just write the menu up in English. Or make an effort to find out the correct spelling - it's not that hard (go to Pappagone and look at the menu...)
  • Just had some takeaway pizzas (and free beer) from Venezia and they were excellent.

It was 7pm on Saturday evening and there were no other customers. I'm not surprised it's for sale. I told them about SG.org and that they were being recommended but fear it will take more than us lot to keep them in business.
  • I just find the layout/decor all wrong and very uninviting. Really don't know what they can do about that without spending prohibitive amounts on a refurb.

  • We got a couple takeaway pizzas on Sunday. They were ok. Edible, but not fantastic. The Fiorentina was too oily, and I'm not sure that the olives go with the other ingredients.

I miss Porchetta the way it used to be. The last 3 or 4 times the pizza was too thin. It used to be perfect every time. I guess they've stopped caring.
  • i was happier with my pizza than r_c was with hers, and the two free bottles of peroni were appreciated… but the experience of sitting in there waiting for the pizzas to be ready was a bit sad. the two people working there were really friendly, but it seemed i was the only person they'd had to talk to all day. it smacked of desperation a little. while i was in there a couple came in, the waitress offered them a table, they looked at the menu for 30 seconds and then left. it was kind of heartbreaking.
i agree with david, the layout of the place is a bit odd. but that's no reason for a place to be entirely empty all the damn time. there are other places on sgr that sit empty too - hummingbird for one, and mela always used to be empty except for the 19 waiters. i'm always happy when i pass by petek or jai krishna and there are loads of people.
  • My partner and I have been to Venezia twice -- once for pizzas, which were fine (the free Peronis helped!) and once for breakfast when we were too lazy to go to our usual up in Crouch End. The fry-up was above average I'd say but I'm still an amateur in this area.
  • Indeed, the decor/ambience is lacking something, anything in fact. Oh well, i will continue to wave to the cheery pizza chef when i walk past...

I saw a few more in there this evening, good luck to 'em!
  • They're doing delivery now...
  • Oh Christ on a Bike. I wished I'd have seen your post earlier James. My other half maintained they didn't, and went to pick them up with his father in law. Which is all well and good, but they drank the sodding free beers while they were waiting!
  • Do they not have free wine for eat in and free beer for take away?

    Madness.

  • I've found the pizzas generally delicious. Unlike Pappagone and Porchetta, the base is always cripsy, and they have a decent wood-burning oven. Any criticism would be that they don't have the range of different meats that Porchetta have.

More of a takeaway than an eat in though.
  • I have always had a very good experience with them, friendly service, delicious, well made pizza and free drinks while we wait for takeout.

I like that they have a shower in the loo, I always pull the curtain back expecting to find someone in there.
  • Is this Medi's place....?
Couldn't bring myself to write in capitals.
  • As i checked venezia feedback and reviews in few websites, also from PR people>>>>(as they will put their feedback in the news pappers)
venezia is one of the few traditional ITALIAN top quality pizza in london(:
good news for stroud green road to have this place.
  • This is getting silly Medi. If you own Venezia, just say so.

  • On the basis that all local places should be given a chance I am currently in Venezia awaiting our take away. This could be a life changing moment ...

  • I can confirm no sign of free drink though.

  • While we're discussing SGR pizza places, I notice that Porchetta is closed six weeks for refurbishment. Given Jai Krishna seems to be undergoing something similar, that does slightly cut down on the local eating options.
  • Jai Krishna's food is really greasy.
  • Apparently Veniza offer Pizza porn , at least according to this (French ?)web site.

Medi is Charlotte related to you ?

  • WOWWWW VENEZIA OPENING SECOND BRANCH SOON(;
  • I hope it's over the other side of the tracks so we can see how our deadly rivals at HarringayOnline deal with Medi's approach to viral marketing.
  • how can they afford to open another branch, when they never have any customers?
  • i love venezia!!!
best pizza in town, and thin crust so feels kinda healhty and really fresh ingredients, yum yum
  • Medi, is your caps lock broken?

  • Why do you love it medi? Apart from the fact your name is on the lease?

If what entrepreneurs need more than anything is perseverance, we'll all be working for medi one day.

Where will the second branch be?

  • Perhaps they are opening it in the same place as the first branch?

  • Is it called 'venezia'?

  • Had pizzas (there was six of us) from Venezia last night, they were very good.

Have had them a few times from Venezia and the quality has been consistently decent. Prices are made more reasonable by collecting them.

Would usually go Porchetta, but the mystery refurb stopped that. Anyone seen how that's going?

PS noticed that the welcome blackboard brilliant placed on the Venezia outside wall at knee height has Medi's name on it. Can't remember whether it was in capitals though.

  • My comment is really about Porchetta but I don't want to pull that old "which pizza is best" thread back to life. I don't often have pizza but when I do it's a takeaway from Porchetta. When I get the pizza home the base is always wet and soggy. Is that just the way it's been made or has it, as a friend assured me, anything to do with the air getting into the box on the journey from la Porchetta to home?
  • @tallboy - OBVIOUS SOLUTION = TRY VENEZIA!

  • The base isn't not soggy if you eat in La Porchetta, so maybe it is the box.

They do put quite a bit of topping on their pizzas and it's quite runny, proper Italian-style pizza, so that could be the case. The Venezia ones are crispier but don't necessarily always pass the pick it up and the topping slides off test

Air in the box. That's an interesting theory.

  • Is it not the steam from the pizza and topping being unable to escape, hence they have those thumb sized holes punched in the sides.

  • I am going to take the plunge tonight and get a delivery from Venezia. Medi, if you are reading this (which I'm guessing you are), it's your one chance to impress....
  • ... and although my palate might not be the most refined, I thought the pizzas were pretty good, and will definitely be ordering from them again.
  • WOWWWW

  • I HAD ONE YESTERDAY AND IT WAS LOVELY
  • i always get takeaway from venezia. fiorentina, no egg but with extra chili and garlic. and i even eat in there occasionally
  • SIMPLY THE BEST PIZZA IN LONDON(:
  • Medi is like the Forrest Gump of Stroud Green-based pizza.
  • Their pizzas are actually really good.
  • We had a Venezia pizza on Monday. It was really nice. Whatever Medi's approach to marketing we gave it a go and they are good.
