    - Keepers. Obvious. No controversy here.

    Robinson (Tottenham),
    James (Manchester City),
    Green (Norwich);

    - Defenders. I'm glad to see Campbell in, but he won't be first choice. There's no need to take Ledley King given the quality already in the squad. No-one obviously missing. Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole is the first choice back 4.

    G Neville (Manchester United),
    Ferdinand (Manchester United),
    Terry (Chelsea),
    Cole (Arsenal),
    Campbell (Arsenal),
    Carragher (Liverpool),
    Bridge (Chelsea)

    - Midfield. Nice to seen Downing and Lennon make it. That gives some real width and pace. Carrick could play in a 4-1-4-1 formation that could be quite cool. I don't rate Jenas and would have taken another striker.

    Beckham (Real Madrid),
    Carrick (Tottenham),
    Lampard (Chelsea),
    Gerrard (Liverpool),
    Hargreaves (Bayern Munich),
    Jenas (Tottenham),
    Downing (Middlesbrough),
    J Cole (Chelsea),
    Lennon (Tottenham),

    - Strikers. We look lightweight here, with Rooney and Owen injured, Crouch the thinking man's Heskey and Walcott an untried 11 year old. But then, what options were there? Bent is crap and Defoe is out of sorts. I might have taken Beattie. A radical option would have been to take Dean Ashton, who offers something a bit different, but Sven likes pace.

    Rooney (Manchester United),
    Owen (Newcastle),
    Crouch (Liverpool),
    Walcott (Arsenal).

At this point, recourse to an old football cliche is the only answer. You can't win a game without scoring goals. Let's just hope that Lampard and Gerrard have got their striking boots on. Walcott could always run round and pull down the opposition's shorts to distract them...

I'd have Reo-Coker instead of either Hargreaves or Jenas. I just don't see them two offering anything when our backs are against the wall. Lennon and Downing definately good selections. Walcott is plain wierd, but there's no doubting his pace and ability. Defoe has 15 games and one goal to his name and I'm pretty sure Walcott will better that.

    Hargreaves is cover for Carrick.

But whether Carrick is first choice....

    Jenas, for me, offers nothing.

As for goals, we get them from midfield, set pieces, or Beckham crosses to Owen. We are the George Graham Arsenal team.

I just got interviewed by "Camden Living" (apparently a real thing) on my thoughts on the World Cup. I tipped Italy and commended Downing, Lennon and Walcott as good selections.

Here it is (though obviously not the latest one)

    http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/community-and-living/camden-citizen/

I am glad the citizens of Camden are so keen to find out my views on the world cup that they are prepared to spend their council tax on someone to interview me.
