door

suppose I wanted an old door taken off its hinges and a new one bought be-handled and put on, how much would it cost and whom should I ask?

You need a joiner preferably, or any jobbing carpenter. It will take them less than half a day, more like two hours, but they will (probably) charge  a half day rate so expect something a little south of £100  - £70/80ish. Hanging doors is a pain in the Netherlands and although I can do it, it takes me an age and lots of pratting about, so now, older and well, just older. I get somebody in.

  • London Door Company won't fit anything but their own custom-made doors and will charge an arm and a leg to do so. If custom-made doors are what you need try Vosey and Jones on Park Road, Crouch End, (opposite The Maynard pub).
  • Thank you all. Ideally, I'd like a salvage door. Custom is a little out of my price bracket.
