<font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><span style="line-height: normal;">A proposal was aired tonight over a couple of beers for the restoration of the 'Stroud Green Badge' on the wall at the Stapleton Tavern.</span></font><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">For those who don't know, the Stroud Green Badge is a historic enamelled jewel dated 1773, the original is held in the Victoria and Albert Museum.   It's connected with the Stapleton Tavern.   It's unusual and really rather lovely.  There's a photograph on the wall of the pub.</div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><img src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B5asuNdeQok/VOPNARMdEjI/AAAAAAAABPo/p7cCxYDxrzc/s1600/Stroud+Green+Badge.JPG"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">There are two issues:</div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">1.  There's no written explanation of the jewel next to the photograph</div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">2.  The picture itself (supplied by the V&A) is quite crap - out of focus and very poor colour reproduction. Bravo. I pledge ten pounds sterling.
  • Thanks Arkady. Good call. If Stroud Green is going to embark on a pledgarama, I will find out what needs to be done and how much it might cost. Also had a supportive message from @StapletonAntic this morning, so maybe they will help. Will report back.

  • We would like to pledge £20, David will hand it over the next time he sees you in ST
  • <p>I have a couple of especially nice, and very ornate, big gold frames laying about at work. They were about £150 each. I don't think we'll be needing them again so happy to rehome one for this. It's sort of a squarish rectangle.</p><p> I also have extremely neat handwriting if required and a pal who runs hand lettering workshops for Liberty.</p>
  • Thanks Miss Annie Just thought........we have John Jones right here on the doorstep........ Hope to get a reply from V&A today.
  • <font face="Arial, Verdana"><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: normal;">Annie's offer is extraordinarily kind! Yet like you say, might be worth speaking to JJ and seeing if they are willing to make a contribution </span><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">to</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: normal;"> </span><span style="font-size: 13.3333330154419px; line-height: normal;">the</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; line-height: normal;"> neighbourhood in the form of a posh professional mounting in one of their uber-swanky frames.</span></font>

I heard back from the V&A.  I'm checking that the print they're offering to provide will actually be any better quality than the one that's already in the pub - if so the price is likely to be either £70 (unframed) or £175 (framed), so relatively affordable.    Watch this space.<div><br></div><div>And @Miss Annie, I'm very appreciative of your gold framing and handwriting offer - let's see how this shapes up.</div>

I've ordered a new picture.   I've negotiated with the V&A and I've got the price down to £49.95, which is a £25 discount for us.   Seems affordable.   <span style="font-size: 10pt;">They say that if the quality is not up to scratch they will get a new digital photograph taken......we'll see.</span><div><br></div><div><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YkVUdbUBsG4/VQqNn5TCmMI/AAAAAAAABSs/GZWVQBJqNIk/s1600/51BPTquEQ0L.jpg"><br></div><div><br></div><div>We can use the old frame.   Now all we need is a bit of non-reflective glass and put in a light above. Neil is checking with the glass shop.    Stapleton Tavern, would you put in a light?   After that a small frame for a written explanation.  All under way, gradually.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
