Silver Bullet Sold (For real this time apparently)

Very sad in a way - it's such a distinctive place. Apparently it's been bought by Burger and Lobster and they're going to turn it into a craft beer bar. I can see why, its location is amazing for the commuter crowd. So long as it turns out to be an interesting place I won't lose sleep over it - but definitely going to go to a few gigs while I can.

Ah, *another* craft beer bar, How marvellous, just what we need.

Are you looking for a pub or venue to buy @south_to_north? You seem to be signed up for the inside info.

Haha no! It's just a co-incidence that so much of this is happening in such a short space of time. That's four places changing hands in a matter of weeks. It's an interesting barometer for the demographic changes in the area.... (Though I am also very interested in the industry, good spot!)
  •
I'm interested in what happens when this current phase of people move out to have kids and the next generation come along. Will they want the mass of faux shabby woodsman, craft beer, vintage stuff? There's a definite trend away from that happening.

What comes next?

  • Not sure, we shall see. I think that craft beer trend is here to stay, just like the trend for having nice coffee! But there will definitely be some changes in what people demand, no way to predict how that will manifest itself however.

(As a side not btw.... I don't *just* care about pubs. Come the right time of year I'll also be asking for some tips re: foraging)

  •
There's been a fair bit of discussion about that over the years. Figs and apples in the Park is my top tip

http://www.stroudgreen.org/search?Search=foraging+
;
  • You'd think a grubby live venue would still be a money maker with all the students that are going to be in the area. Can't see many people wanting to eat a lobster in the middle of a bus station. But I guess as a chain burger bar it might do ok. Shame. Had lots of good nights in SB.
  • There are as many gastropubs (possibly more), and restaurants in Finsbury Park/SG as in Crouch End but fewer places for gigs, music, dancing. That seems the wrong way round somehow
  • @ Graeme. I think the tastes of the students who are staying in the expensive accommodation around FB station could be different than in the past. Perhaps a bar serving lobster is what they want rather than a snakebite and a bag of chips on the way home.
  • They are mostly international students, studying Art subjects. Not at all like students of the 80s & 90s.
  • Please note this is not official yet and if the deal does go through, it will be a late bar - not a branch of Burger & Lobster.
  • Do you own Silver Bullet @CityOfSin? Will it still be a music venue too?
  • Why can I never see opening posts?

It's a problem on mobiles which we've never been able to fix. If it happens, just go to your browser settings and select 'request desktop site' or similar. That fixes it. I'm hoping the next version of Vanilla deals with the problem.
  • Can I ask where the information came from that the Silver Bullet has been sold? @south_to_north @CityOfSin I work there and haven't been told anything, which is a bit concerning as I am about to take a promotion to Bar Manager?

Want to know if this is just hear say?

I will be having a chat with the venue owner also to confirm but would like to know where the facts have come from in case I am being led down a career path which is ultimately a waste of time?

  • Am sorry about your job sailor. Not the most appropriate way to find out
  • This is only confirmation that the Leasehold has been sold, not that there will be a change of use. It might be that the new owner keeps the Silver Bullet as is.

Holy Smokes! Its Hayley the event manager of the Silver Bullet. Im happy to confirm we have not been sold. I wonder if the person who wrote this piece would mind changing the title of the thread to "THE SILVER BULLET - GOING WILD 7 DAYS A WEEK" instead? hehe. Our tiny tight knit team absolutely love representing live music in Finsbury Park and like you say it would be a big disappointment if it was turned into another chain lobster/burger pub/restaurant. There's plenty in the area. We buzz of building a base for independent artists, musicians and the party poppin' public and aim to do so for the foreseeable future. We are open 7 days a week aye ;) Thank you all for the concern though. its good to see we have support in the local community.

Ive spoken to the owner today and I can confirm the lease has not been sold. That said he's keen to keep the venue as it is and has taken a long time to try and find the right person for the investment. Its not that the business is not doing well, although we are not profit hungry madmen like some of the chains out there. We love what we do - and we will continue to do so as long as everyone continues to prop up the bar we will be A-OK!

We actually have some very big exciting plans ahead! • Ah amazing - thanks Arkady :)
  • Awesome news! Now that you'll be here for the 24 hour tube you should see business get better as well! Would love to drop by on my way home from a night out to watch some clown-core :P

  • @holbornfox Never actually been in orleans. What's it like in there?
  • Never even heard of Orleans! Where/what is it?

  •
On Seven Sisters Rd, near Greggs. I can pretty safely say you probably would not like it.

Didn't they get closed down for breach of licensing or rowdy behaviour or something?

  • Have to say it was fairly eclectic in there, there was still some live funky jazz when I rocked up in the very wee hours (from hazy memory). We left at silly daylight o'clock and it was just me, my pal and a couple of randoms in there. This was a weeknight so maybe different at the weekend. I think it's previous incarnation may have been shut down... one3one club or something like that.
