  • They're referring to the hospitality industry.
  • The bar that the Goodman group are opening will be called Zelman Drinks. (For context, they own the rather good Zelman Meats in Soho, named after the company's boss, Misha Zelman). In an advert for a bar manager they say: "We are the people be…
  • That's an odd one. I rarely seem to pass when it's open, but it must survive somehow. Something similar would be a great fit for SGR.
  • @Arkady - Tease!
  • The amount of people begging and drinking on the street is insane at the moment. I'd have more sympathy if I hadn't given a fiver to the girl who begs outside Sainsburys and then watched her spend it beside me at the bar at the White Lion. p.s. T…
  • Given the number of pubs nearby, it would be interesting to see if something different might work - maybe something more wine-focused? Somewhere you could go for good wine and bar snacks (charcuterie, cheese etc - simple stuff, no kitchen required).…
  • Wonder what will happen to it now. I can't see it becoming another pub but I'm not sure what else would work there, except er.. flats.
  • Didn't know about the app - that's a great idea. I've noticed a fair few mattresses, bits of broken furniture, etc on our street and nearby. I wonder if it's because Islington now charges for bulky waste collections? (£30+).
  • It's not just pubs though, is it? There are lots of other businesses that need support and they all require cash and time from locals who are busy and paying huge amounts in rent, travel, etc. And yes, I would say there plenty of people who can't…
  • I imagine that however good a place is, it's still a struggle to tear enough people away from SGR or Crouch End. Max's seems to manage it, Piccolo Diavolo probably isn't as busy as it should be, and the Crouch Hill effect has already claimed 3 pizze…
  • Reviving this old thread because it looks like The Hopsmiths has now closed. Confirmed by Late Knights brewery here: https://twitter.com/Late_Knights/status/765943505881554944
  • Who knows? Maybe they need time to work out what they want to do with the business? So Stroud Green now has 2 Vietnamese restaurants (3 if you count Salvation in Noodles), but no decent Japanese / Korean for the time being.

  • Closed indefinitely for some 'rest'. Can't seem to post as an image but here's a photo of the sign in the window: https://twitter.com/BeckyBarnesB/status/758357993260015616

  • "Is that what happens when you don't drink in an ikea catalogue's wet dream then?" No, but stuff like that happened often at The Quays. That's all I'm saying. The Lamb is nice. What do you drink at The Fullback? Their beer has a pretty bad rep!
  • I've not been yet, but I think many locals would take 'safe' and 'generic' over 'genuine risk of being glassed' any day. Out of interest, do you have a favourite pub in the area?
  • I've seen this guy a lot too, always crying. I assumed it was for maximum begging effect, but there's no denying it's very distressing. I've seen young kids pretty freaked out about it. Is there a team that deals with the 'regular' beggars in the…
  • Seriously? The Stapleton was pretty chilled on a recent visit. The Old Dairy isn't that rowdy mid-week. The Hopsmiths is quiet. The W B Yeats is very welcoming and chilled out - they only have music once a week or so?
  • https://www.thecaterer.com/articles/367342/goodmans-david-strauss-to-open-late-night-bar-in-london “It will be a late-night bar for people who work in hospitality, in restaurants, supermarkets, takeaways – people who don’t finish work at 5pm.” I…
  • No. Last I heard their plans were for a late bar.
  • Pretty sure it was always on the cards...
  • There is now a 'Save the Silver Bullet' petition, should you wish to sign it. They're also crowdfunding. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/savesilverbullet
  • Looks like it is E Mono. Noooooo! https://twitter.com/dannylovett/status/735385387636514816 face="Arial, Verdana"> https://twitter.com/PeepODaze/status/735385700753940480 style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; fo…
  • Very well said, @south_to_north..
  • Genuine question - lots of people on here mention residents 'being forced out' of the area. Who are these people? People that are renting and can't afford the price hikes? (Because surely property owners - i.e. those that bought flats here before it…
  • The use of the word 'normal' is useless here. A smart, upscale gastropub may be 'normal' to some, while a spit-and-sawdust old school boozer may be 'normal' to others. Perhaps people aren't scared to go to some places, they just prefer elsewhere? Ag…
  • What have you started? Reminds me of a tongue-in-cheek comment I saw on twitter recently: "Gentrification is great, just wait a few years and the area you could afford turns into the area you really wanted." I can imagine some of the regulars on th…
  • @south_to_north I know! Did they look around the area and think 'you know what this place needs? MORE PIZZA' Also, I must be one of the few locals that doesn't understand the appeal of Pappagone. It's always rammed but eh.. I've had better pizza and…
  • I really liked Fabrizio so definitely keen to try Gustavo's. I've heard good things about the Pizza Bakers too. Apparently it has a garden out the back. FYI, there's yet another pizzeria opening on Blackstock Rd next month with FREE pizza for the f…
  • @vetski Thanks, good to know for when the weather improves. We can't all squeeze into the Fullback's outdoor area... @Papa L - No, the manager of the W B Yeats is Colin (Northern Irish guy) and he hasn't moved anywhere.
  • Excited to try this place after all these good reviews. Does anyone know if they have a website or a menu online?
