  • Emine - they dug the marigolds up?? What the fuck is wrong with people!
  • HOORAY, MEAT!
  • That woman who done a version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow which basically became a hit because she died. Yuk. Oh, also Laura Nyro maybe.
  • I think most people have been arguing about etymology rather than the idea of the Slutwalk itself to be honest. I am thinking I will go, although the idea is problematic (for the reasons I mentioned originally), as it will be good to be a part of …
  • Maybe it depends on the time of night, and how much they want to get rid of their stuff before closing? Although that doesn't really make sense either does it. Don't they have a price list?
  • They're meant to be £3, with 60p off, so £2.40. I think it's my syntax rather than my maths that's up the spout. Anyway I've just had a lovely bbq on the roof. Let the salmonella commence!
  • Well, women were being described as sluts (meaning promiscuous) in Fielding's Tom Jones and that was written in 1749.
  • Ah good, will try to get along to it in that case.
  • I like this thread a lot. It's been encouraging me to look at the fixtures and fittings in the area. Hornsey Road isn't the seething brick pit of despair it appears to be on first glance, for example.
  • I'm in two minds about Slutwalk. I agree with the premise but object to the idea of "reclaiming" a word that has never had anything but negative connotations. Also, a lot of the organisers are quick to stress that they're not feminists, which I thin…
  • Blimey. Well we're on UTP too and our downstairs neighbour has just spent the last week actually making the front garden look acceptable, cleared it all out and put in loads of plants...guess we'll have to see how long that lasts. Some dickheads to…
  • I almost dread to ask where Lynne comes in this list.
  • Hahaha, wondering how long it would take for ADGS to show up. I really like AC, and sort of agree with ADGS that it's foolish to take his narrative as gospel. As with any academic - historian, literary critic etc - with a narrative arc to sell, he …
  • I hope these revelations make it into the local news.
  • Rocky Babblebrook is the name of one of the Sylvanian Families rabbits - who is presumably life-sized, and running a shop in Finsbury Park. Chilling.
  • I've only ever taken books, and then only when they've had a sign saying "help yourself". Seems to happen a lot around here though which is BRILLIANT, oh books how I love you.
  • But did it get taken in the end?
  • NOT IN MY BACK YARD* *I don't have one
  • I saw a sign up by the 19 bus stop in the bus station today, something about a proposed change to the cycle route round there so it won't follow the same one way system? I only skim read it cos I don't cycle so it might not be relevant. Anyway maybe…

  • It's good though, right, that he wouldn't want to live round here. Can you imagine someone like that let loose on the SG board..?
  • PS: "Do you really know what you Cat gets up to when it is out" I tried to persuade my sister to buy some of these for her cats but she was having none of it. Bah.
  • Ali, cats kill animals as offerings to their owners - hence not eating their prey, and then being affectionate to the recipient of their gift. Whilst it's not pleasant that they kill smaller animals, it's very much in their nature and would be cru…
  • Turkey didn't get through either, so I'm boycotting it. Well, I mean, I wasn't going to watch it anyway, but if I had been meaning to, I now wouldn't.

  • I should imagine that people have built up relationships with the shop owners on the road so they will still go in for their daily paper, cigarettes, beer, lottery and bits and bobs, but use Tesco for their bigger shop. That's what seems to happen o…
  • She is definitely the same Jemima The Fish! She is very pale with only a few orange patches. Unless...have my parents been BLEACHING a succession of FISH??
  • What we need is a return to the kind of park keepers parkies that the Beano was so fond of, with flat caps on, running after the Bash Street Kids and shaking an angry fist.

  • My parents still have a goldfish that my little brother won at a fete when he was about 5. He is now 19. The goldfish (Jemima) is huge and gets really excited when she sees anyone approach the bowl.
  • I agree with what everyone's said really about it being generally too busy now, but still good during the day if you can get there early enough. I find that N19 more than meets my outside-drinking pub needs and is never too busy.
  • I'm pretty sure I was calling it that before I used this site (not saying I made it up, just that it's not an SG.org invention).
