  • I did once attend a Haringey adult education class on photography, but they don't run it now. I love taking photographs, especially portraits of interesting faces. Walking our local streets I often see beautiful, interesting or amusing things to pho…
  • Cookie: I found out how to cure my cat of cystitus, as I said when starting this thread. I found out by reading masses of articles until I found a clearly knowledgeable writer who wasn't trying to sell anything. Medicanimal sell veterinery medicines…
  • The sqirrel-proof bird feeders with bars outside are excellent for seeds and peanuts and my local squirrels have finally given up trying to raid them. But I can't find a squirrel-proof nigella seed feeder, to attrack goldfinches. Two arrived the fir…
  • If your friends ahve a sense of humour, why not read Mr Casoubon's proposal to Dorothea in "Middlemarch"? Just joking! What about the poem "Why do I love thee?"
  • Jak: My sincere sympathy for your loss, but you showed your love by helping Charlie on his way. That beautiful poem brought tears to my eyes. Cookie: Could it have been the fur balls that were causing the problem?
  • Yes, Jak, Nick at Dragon is a really nice person, who spayed my cats, but the reception staff... I'm scared of them. By the way, did you know you can get Frontline half price online? I paid an inflated price at Dragon. Barebackreader, I understand …
  • Barebackreader: I have had 6 cats altogether and apart from their first vaccination, none has had any further jabs at all, and so far they have lived their full span without serious illness. Not all vets are in favour of regular jabs, as there is so…
  • Sometimes I wonder if there is some way we can thank/reward Andy for starting and maintaining this brilliant community wesite? Should there come a time when we make a contribution? I have lived in Lancaster Road for more than 40 years and have met m…
  • Dorothy: Sympathy re mosquito bites. Maybe global warming accounts for their increase. I had a bite above my eye. Really swollen. Antihistamines.

  • Ali, Thanks for happy news.

  • Aha ADGS! Our frogs didn't start life that way, because we fed them. They only become cannibals if they don't have enough food. These are just common frogs, brownish with patterns or spots, and live on land but breed in water. They make a kind of pur…

  • Those sweet, tasty Pakistani honey mangoes only come into our shops at this time of year. They seem less fibrous than others. Only buy ones with a smooth skin. I bought six perfect ones in a box at Walthamstow market for £3.50. Those I bought in SGR…

  • Sincers, congratulations on the additions to your pond! Dorothy, Some tadpoles do not mature until conditions are right. But I was upset to hear what those nasty newts are doing to your baby frogs. I think my newts are too small to do that. We'll n…

  • emine, Sorry, I have only just seen your message. Glad your plants doing well. Ming says she gives her takings to Red Cross. I keep my small profit! Thanks for offer of tomato plants. I wonder if they were the ones Ming had on display today? She did…

  • Once they have lost their tails and feel ready, my baby frogs are jumping out of container. There will probably be a grand exodus when it rains.

  • I had a plant pot stolen - plant thrown on path - so next one is screwed down. Wonder if someone selling them at car boot sale?
  • Well, at least Sparkyley won't have many slugs! I'm still feeding taddies on fishfood and boiled lettuce cubes. And today I was thrilled to see two baby frogs in my container. They are light brown. It's as if they changed overnight.

  • I am happy to announce that all my spare tadpoles have now been re-homed! By the way, don't bother feeding them with liver. Although they ate a little meat, I found all the uneaten bits of liver in the bottom of container. But I have seen tadpoles g…

  • Don't worry if tadpoles haven't got back legs yet. They all develop at different rates. Only about one third of mine have them. They won't try to get out of pond until they have four legs, anyway, but some bigger ones like basking in shallow water.

  • It has been a great pleasure meeting so many local pond owners - and their offspring. So far seven people have helped me out, but I still have some tadpoles to spare. Some of them have back legs now.

  • Ali, do you still want tadpoles? I whispered to you but have not heard anything.

  • Bravo, David - and Him upstairs. This is a great site, with a marvellous community spirit and plenty of funny, witty repartee, but some of the stupid things people say are really boring.
  • Emma is right. Cats are natural hunters - well some of them. My European Domestic cat only catches, and eats, young frogs, but the one with a touch of Abyssinian brings in frogs, baby birds, mice and baby rats, all as gifts. I try to rescue anything…
  • Yes, I saw all three returning to Duxford, side-by-side. People up on the Parkland Walk were calling out excitedly to each other.
  • I've still got tadpolestogo, and not for burgers or sandwiches, or was it omelettes someone whispered to me?! Please pass on the word to anyone you know with a pond. They are eating me out of house and home, I'm slaving away to provide them with liq…

  • Yes, Dorothy, they get on well in my ponds, although newts eat frogspawn and small tadpoles. That is why I interfered with nature and reared a handful of frogspawn in a big container. Now I have hundreds of tadpoles. If I put them all in my ponds I …

  • Did you know that anyone can nominate a local landmark for listed status? Contact: www.haringey.gov.uk/local_list_nomination_form.pdf
  • Number 91 Lancaster Road (corner house) is a fine example of a historical landmark. It was the Victorian station master's house. It also has a row of rare pleached trees in the front garden, but some have recently, apparently, been killed.
  • Andy and Arkady: Thanks for your suggestions. Luckily, someone sorted it for me. For the benefit of anyone else with same problem, this is what she did: 1. Click Tools 2. Click Internet Options 3. Delete MSN (which had replaced Google without …
