Laptop repair?

I've given up on getting Toshiba to repair my laptop. Going to have to pay someone to do it. Can anyone recommend a place that will do the job without charging me for parts/services I don't need? I'm thinking of trying these guys: www.fixitnerds.com

    No experience with fixitnerds but I'd recommend <www.mac-daddy.com> in west hampstead. They are mac specialists, but I'd trust whoever they recommended for PC work. They've done data recovery and repairs for me. Whatever you do, don't send it off somewhere. The risk of it being held to ransom because "the motherboard has gone" or some other excuse isn't worth it.

    Toshiba wanted me to send it to their new repair centre somewhere in mainland Europe, where they would decide whether the repair would be covered by warranty. Just the postage is more than £80. I've sent them an angry letter, but got no reply. So if anyone has any ideas as to how I can screw Toshiba...

    There's a new laptop repair place at the old estate agent next to the station on Quernmore Rd. Never used them, you could use it as a guinea pig and report back?

    Is it worth a house insurance "fell off my desk" job...

    I need to get a new mains connection socket put into an Acer laptop. Power cable no longer connects properly. Not a big job I imagine.

    Does anyone know of a place locally that might do this at reasonable cost?

    Has anyone tried the 'computer repairs - no fix no fee' place on Tollington Park just up from the Nando's traffic lights? Whenever I've been in there 'the computer man' (a Chinese guy) is not there.

    @poxy thanks. I called them and as you expect they want to charge £60 just to open it up and 'diagnose' it. Hmmm.

    How did you fare with your Acer laptop?
    Mine has just started to go the same way (the internet suggests this is a pretty common issue) - I agree, it doesn't seem like a big job.

    Did you find anywhere locally that wouldn't rip you off?

    I can recommend Fastech at 467 Green Lanes, a couple of blocks past the big Sainsburys. Good no-nonsense attitude and prices start at way below £60.
