Punk Fire
  • A rather large fire last night at the Punk house on Fonthill Road just to the left of Brother's corner shop, which is now called something else. Junction of Fonthill Rd & Lennox Rd closed off with five or six fire engines and similar numbers of police cars in attendance.

A decent amount of damage seen this morning, with the building quite charred. Was this a squat of some sort?

  • You mean the house where the ground floor windows were painted over? I had heard that it was a squat. Fingers crossed no-one got hurt.
  • Yep, that's the one. The upper floor windows were all broken in this morning, presumably by the firefighters to get water into the building.

  • Haringey Independent says:

'A MAN was taken to hospital for treatment after fleeing from a house fire in Finsbury Park.

The house in Fonthill Road, which has been converted into flats, caught fire last night at around 11.30pm, forcing the man to leave the building.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within half an hour, and an investigation into the cause has been launched.'
  • It was a substantial fire, generating a significant amount of acrid smoke. By the looks of it, it's completely gutted the house and the roof of next door.

It must have been well alight by the time the fire-bridage got there.
  • I called the fire brigade at about 5 past 11 when i went past on my dog walk. Not one of the 4/5 people hanging in the streets had done it (including a couple of the guys squatting there). The flames were licking the windows then. It felt like a very long time before the fire brigade turned up.
  • And now the building's sitting there half-burnt and looking as though it'll rot. Not good.

  • No change yet. There's a half-hearted attempt to board up one of the first floor windows, but the second floor's been abandoned to the rain. I wonder who owns it.

  • Thanks Andy. Good news, I think.
