Who has lived in Stroud Green the longest?
  • a measly 4 years 4 months
  • Don't think I'll win, but 6 years and 10 months.

  • a wee pup at 2 years pretty much on the nose. a guest and close neighbour for many years before however.

  • Moved here in 97. OK - I have moved south of the park in the interim for a bit but home is where the heart is and all that.
  • I've lived here off and on since 1996 ... missing out for 6 months in SE London ( ...erk!) and a year in Highgate
  • A little over 6 years I think.

Jesus. We were only stopping in for a cup of tea. We registered the domains because we needed an email address and couldn't think of anything else.

  • Since 1981 when the area was really was quite dodgy! There was only the Stapleton Hall Tavern , the Osborne, the Park Tavern in Tollington Pk, The Duke of Edinburgh in Perth Road and the Worlds End was a very republican Irish Bar which was most interesting late on Friday on the stagger back at 11pm from town as it stayed open late.

By 1983 you had Marlers Bar open which was the trendy pub of the area and absolutely packed to the door every night. It was pub no 6 win the Weatherspoons chain and is now the Nobel. The White Lion when it opened in 1986 was revolutionary and was the biggest pub in the chain and even made it into the style pages of the Observer Magazine at the time !

The shining light the was the Vegie Indian which used to be frequented by Annie Lennox who was living in Stapleton Hall Road with Dave S. Still owned by the same people as well.
  • since 1998 for me, but Ali wins no doubt!

Great to read some local history, thanks for that

  • Just a mere 2 and a half years. I enjoyed Ali's history too...
  • Bring back Busby.

  • Yeah, whatever happened to the wily old curmudgeon?

  • I think we can safely say that David scared him off

  • Ah, the good old days, when David was randomly rude to people he's never met. Is it a coincidence that member numbers have increased since he stopped?

  • I could be pointedly rude to people I have met if you'd prefer Liz, and ban you.

  • Ace. We haven't had random threats of banning for ages.

  • Not true, I think I did one last week too.

  • David, it's good to have the real you back.

  • Ah no, that was a threat of douche bagging, not banning. Getting soft in my old age.

  • Poor Busby !

Thought his comments about the Stone of Destiny (he called it Stone of Scoon ( should be Scone)) interesting.

If it is true that it did go up SGR after the heist from Westminster Abbey maybe we should watch out for film crews and a film about this is currently being made by Charles Martin Smith starring Charlie Cox and Robert Carlyle.
  • Does Tollington Way count?? We were right on the corner of Hornsey Rd...

If it does, then we're just shy of 7 years and 6 months, but I suspect not, in which case it's 5 years and 3 months.
  • It's not a competition, is it?

    Is there a prize?

  • Geoff started it, so I guess the right to declare winners and award prizes sits with him

  • the winner is Ali with an awesome 27 odd years

i dare say that that is more time than some people on this site are old.
  • Hear hear Geoff!
  • maybe I am only 30 or so !
  • I doubt anybody on here is less than 27.

    I am 31

  • Them two would have a terrible shock if they met up.

  • Har har!! How old are you David?
  • i am liar.
but david is close to 50
  • He omits that I'm a young 50 to his rather dated 45.

  • Apparently my new facebook photo has been compared to a young Robert Vaughn. Make of that what you will.
  • How young a Robert Vaughan? Are you bald with chubby cheeks because it could be a baby shot of him they were thinking of?
  • There's something in there, a little bit.

  • I'm really troubled by the fact that people on this site might know what i look like.

  • its your Facebook picture? They might not be able to Poke you, but they can see the picture already. You'll probably get stopped for autographs now.

  • I have changed my facebook picture to the bloke from the Rockford Files.

  • It also blows out my earlier lie that I am 25

  • It's nice to be missed. In fact I hadn't realised that there was anyone really taking notes of my musings...

My sons bought me a new PC, so, thinking that I'd need to start again (so to speak) I threw out all my favourites and only today did I see that Stroud Green was missing.

    I'm no computer expert.
  • Heh. Not the first time that picture has made these forums.

Busby, were you a cyclist then?

  • I win this one, I think. I have lived in Stroud Green since March 1959. Beat that!
I'm afraid I can't remember it when it was 'quite dodgy'.
  • How can anyone have lived in Stroud Green before it was invented?

  • Back when I was a boy, it was all fields round here...

    RJP wins.
  • I was catching the 210 before I was born.
  • Funnily enough so was I; if only when my mum was on the way up to the Whittington Hospital to give birth.
Damn, that means I was born in Islington, not Hornsey.
  • Ah. I was just joking. Just for clarity, like. I was born in 'Nam.
  • Dagen Nam.

    and he still gets flashbacks.
