Robbery on Florence Road

We had just finished our dinner, sitting with a glass of wine when we heard a woman screaming 'call the police, call the police, someone call the police'. I looked out the window and saw a woman running up Florence Rd. very distressed. I called 999 and walked out to her while on the phone to the police. She run up Parkland Walk but by then there were a few people on the street and we stopped her. It turned out that she was held at knife point by a 'hoodie' one block down who then robbed her and ran off on to Parkland Walk. The police arrived a few minutes later. They've now turned up with sniffer dogs. Boys and girls; be careful!

yes, and we heard a few gun shots a few minutes ago. There are still two unmarked police cars outside our house now. I used to feel really safe on our street....

Also live in Florence Road and heard/saw some of the events last night. It's very unsettling but it's the first time in over five years of living here that I've seen something like that. The scale and speed of the police response was pretty impressive.

And yes, I'm pretty certain it was fireworks that were heard.

Definitely fireworks.

Yeah, sounded like fireworks but the timing was surreal. Woman screams, police called, sniffer dogs arrive, helicopter appears overhead, suddenly fireworks go off. I kept wondering whether it could be flares and that they were close to the culprit on Parkland Walk or something. Clearly watched too much CSI.

Very confusing when the local papers talk about a suspect having been arrested. Since this last event seems to have happened after the story was written, presumably they have the wrong guy (or there's more than one).

That was the guy who was robbing from women between 40 and 74 a few months ago. I'm presuming this other guy hasn't been caught.

I know there were murders in 1991 on the Parkland Walk, having almost been one of the victims myself. I will not go on the walkway unless with another adult and not at all from about 4pm.

The most dastardly robbery I can recall during my time living in Florence Road (1945-53) was when, one Saturday morning, about 1947, on my way back from Saturday Morning Pictures in the old Rank cinema down at Finsbury Park my mates and I were 'attacked' by some yobs from Fonthill Road. This took place in a large, crumbling WW11 water reservoir on the corner of Tollington Park and Stroud Green Road. We had climbed over the reservoir wall to sail a small bakelite boat that I had in my pocket (and of which I was very proud) when these thugs (probably about ten years old or so) threatened to beat us up if we didn't hand the boat over.

Nothing new under the sun is there...!
