Andy - try and be polite: it is yours and Dave's forum after all.
I do think users of this forum find it offensive when standards are lowered by the people who run the forum.I find it offensive too.

Arkady - I will pass on your comments about how you think Ron should throw his extensive collection of jazz mags in to the hedge. This is good advice from you Arkady.I am afraid Ron will be littering the parkland walk with porn - unfortunatley provoked into this antisocial behaviour by islington council. SAd how the council has this effect on people.Disgracefull really when you think about it.

Action verb - Ron has told me he has done a cleaning job with j clothes that he bought from tesco in sg rd on his well thumbed collection of jazz mags. He intends to contact you via email at a later date, from an internet cafe, not aldni by the chip shop in tollington park though as that net cafe has closed down. Ron was keen to tell you his mags are high quality french porn smuggled over the english channel and sold to him illegally under the counter in chapel market in islington - ron doesnt have the internet hes old skool like that. he is prepared to give you a fifty per cent discount or a 75 per cent discount for the besst or most used/soiled mags.
Ron will send you a whisper soon - but he is not very computer literate though, hence his lack of home internet connection.

    Carry on.

The idea that sg steve is the arbiter of what is 'polite' on this forum is frankly terrifying. Worst thread ever.

"Throw the porn mags into the hedge, like everyone else does."

Best joke you have ever written on this forum Arkady.

Hilarious, really made me chuckle, good joke Arkady.

"Best or worst thread ever on the forum" - ah ah , whatever love!

@graeme: I quite like the half-way house of having a free allowance of rubbish and paying per kg above that allowance. That helps counter the 'vulnerable pensioner' argument (who will typically be a below average user and hence pay proportionatey less, if they pay at all) and IMHO just make it easier to sell the scheme as fair. Sadly I think it's ultimately ill conceived. There's a large enough minority who would avoid payment either by fly-tipping or by dumping their rubbish in neighbours' bins that it's probably unworkable. -roy

    2 b serious for a moment,

regarding the issue of identity fraud - a major crime in london

as lsington council are threatening to go through our bins, and they arent denying this, to look for evidence that we haven't recycled to fine us, then how can we be sure that islington council employees won't steal our documents that we threw away and do identity fraud.
islington council employees can steal our identities and then take money out of our bank accounts. if the council tells them to go through our bins which is what they have done.

And what about personal letters from our families, we don' t want islington council employees reading letters that our families have sent us,private letters from family members, some people shred letters they receive and put in the bin - but who bothers with that?

most people wouldnt trust islington council employees further than they could throw them when it comes to identity fraud

to be honest if islington council got caught going through peoples bins on the andover or six acres estates then they would be lucky to get out of their without a kick in the shins or a smack in the mouth

@sg steve - i agree with nearly all of your comments so please don't take this the wrong way but the maths doesn't work on the following comment: "The council say that they need to save 400k from people who dont recycle. well cut 50k off 4 executives pay and then no fines for grannies needed." I think this leaves us £200k short - that'll be the no right turn camera making up the difference then.

@sg steve: giving you the benefit of the doubt here and assuming you're serious about the privacy/identity theft risk: buy a shredder. It sucks that in this day and age you need to shred everything sensitive, and I myself held out for many years, and indeed used to regard the shredding-brigade as tin foil hat paranoid loonies. But times have changed: I have a shredder and use it (although I'm not quite as paranoid as some people in terms of what I shred). But if you're not shredding then I'm afraid as far as identity theft goes Islington Council is the least of your worries, compared to actual criminals. -roy

People give away far more online than you could find going through their bins. Name, email address, IP address. Address, photos, etc are all really easy to find too.

You give these things freely to all sorts of sites online. Using the same password on sites like this as your bank is a bit like leaving the front door open. People should be more worried about that than the Council.

People that put their full date of birth with all their personal info on sites like facebook are eedjits.
  • edited 1:55AM
    u done me there dion!

    bunked off cse maths

islington council say they want to save 400k from people who dont recycle. Reduce senior and middle manager saleries and savings have been made so no need for fines whatever the cse maths calculations.

Have council and old bill made zebra crossing on upper tollington safe?

@miss annie: sadly date of birth is a matter of public record - it's on your birth certificate. And mother's maiden name is a matter of public record, too (and there are plenty of geneology websites that will help you research stuff like that). It's rather ridiculous how many organisations still rely on these two public pieces of information to identify people, just because these pieces of public information **used** to be, in the pre-Internet days, _really quite a lot of work_ to look up. They were never actually secret, though, but I gather that these days if you know where to look they're really quite easy to look up on the Internet (possibly for a fee). -roy

Andy you say that people should be more worried about what they give away online than what they give away in their rubbish bins to the islington council. Er yes but we are talking about id fraud by islington council employees stealing our identies from our homes not online fraud

Andy - do you have any evidence for your statement.

How do you know that islington council employees are not part of some worldwide criminal gang of identity fraud criminals. Who are looking to exploit new islington council plans to go through our bins to fine us if we dont recycle.

Andy - you have shown no evidence to support your claims with regard to this issue.

miss annie - people havent got time to shred all documents so if islington council employee criminals steal peoples identities, then islington council will get sued in a court of law for this.

Do Islington Council know how many convicted criminals they have working for them. Have they done criminal checks in the countries that their employees come from to check that they are not professional identity fraudsters from the southern hemisphere who now work for islington council.

I would like to see professional criminal records checks for all non uk passport holders to check these people arent top criminals from the southern hemisphere who are involved in organised crime

how good are islington council crimal checks on their employees
Why be naive and assume islington council employees arent professional criminals in the multiple countries they come from?

People wont assume that islington council have done criminal checks on people going through their bins they will just tell them to f off

SGS: ADGS is my initials, because my usual online aliases were already taken, though not by regular posters. And I don't recall ever monopolising a thread to quite such repetitive effect as you have on here.

As for "We dont like people telling us what to do in our own home"...this could also double as a defence of domestic violence, honour killings &c. And in the hands of the Mail writers and mullahs of the world, it sometimes does.

And Ron is quite right about the etiquette of porn disposal, though in an age when the young mainly have the Internet I'm not sure they'd need manky hedgerow wank-fodder anymore. How times change, eh? I heard a dial-up internet tone today and felt all nostalgic for a moment, until it froze and I remembered dial-up was rubbish.

    whatever a-dads - adgs

start your own thread thread and monopolise that - u monopolise everyone else's threads with your pompous know all cambridge young offenders institue comments - although alot of your comments are good so no real offense to you or anyone else

adads - i am not talking about domestic violence am i - i am not talking about honour killings or extreme events- i am tallking about pensioners getting a fine for shoving a milk carton and a newspaper into their bin bags - which is what the council are threatening to fine people for even if the islington counicl wimps wont follow up on their bullying threats the labour party threaten us like this - get a sense of perspective addgs Attention deficit disorder.

Ron doesnt know what dial up is, he hasnt got a computer, and hes never read this website to be honest he doesnt even know what day it is but he doesnt like islington council threatening him with fines

honour killings - get a grip of yourself adads. flipping ek what are some people like in stroud green! f---- h---!

First I was told be polite, now I'm being told to bring evidence. The irony does make me smile.

All I'm saying is that even the shoddiest forum built on a free piece of software captures a quite staggering amount of personal information. Without going anywhere near your bins. What Facebook and Google must have on you is faintly terrifying to consider.
  • edited 1:55AM
andy - i hope google havent remembered the things i googled! i prefer the council binmen to that! ron doesnt know what i mean by that which is a good thing, i think blokes reading this might know what i mean.

adgs - good point of logic regarding the comment "we dont like being told what to do in our own home." maybe daily mail write that, its dog whistling isnt it , just sort of stating your case then making general statements that might appeal to people who agree with your view point - which is noone on thi s thread!

note to self - change newsagents order from the dail mail to the sunday sport,er i mean the times.or guardian is it?

arkady says causitry - i think he calls the philosophical discussions - ultimately opinons boil down to subjective feelings and personalities.
if you value council savings/environmental arguments more that pensioners upset over fines. why do you value one argument over another? the psycology of ethics and politics nature or nurture or both who know after a few ales

I didn't say that and never would. There is no fact/value distinction. I'm with Sam Harris on this one - values refer to wellbeing in conscious creatures and therefore can be assessed objectively.

@ sgsteve - I have the same levels of rage against Haringey as you do against Islington. I used to live in Islington and raged against them then. The crossing still isn't as safe as it could be, but the council did repaint all the CPZ lines instead of doing anything to the crossing. I wonder if I am just a serial council hater - I think I am. And all the cameras everywhere do freak me out a bit...
  • edited 1:55AM
But at least Haringey won't be going through our bins eh.

Please can local councillors reply to serious comments made on this thread?

Why won't Islington Council Labour councillors take part in this thread, or start their own thread to discuss these issues?

They know we are talking about these issues, they read this forum.

The Labour Leader of Islington Council,Catherine West, is the councillor for the area around the junction of Stroud Green Rd and Tollington Park and the tollington ward.

    Thank you very much.

In todays copy of The Evening Standard:

The person willing to take up the post of London's lowest-paid council chief executive has finally been selected.

But Lesley Seary will still earn more than the Prime Minister's £142,500 salary when she starts in the top job at Islington council. Her responsibilities will include implementing £52 million cuts in the Labour-run borough and overseeing hundreds of job losses.

She will have a £160,000 salary, about £20,000 more than her current package as executive director for customer services at Lewisham council. Islington's present chief executive John Foster, who retires in May, earned £210,000 a year. Ms Seary has 13 years' experience in local government. Islington received 53 applications for the post and shortlisted five candidates. Ms Seary, of Wanstead, had applied twice previously for the job but was turned down on those occasions.

Catherine West, the leader of Islington council said: "Subject to full council confirming the appointment, we anticipate welcoming Lesley Seary to her new role at Islington in the early summer."

    Good for her.

sincers - good for who? Try and be accurate son - the article names 2 women in it. Sincers - if you are a metaphorical poodle then then i am prodding you with a metaphorical stick - i hope your owner pooper skoops after your posts,so as to avoid a negative effect on the environment. Get a grip of yourself, and get a haircut you are probably a scruffy student or something i would imagine, eating baked beansprobably or maybe some cheese on toast or a crumpet.

There is a letter on letters page of the local paper today "the hornsey journal" which is complaining about greedily high salaries paid to Haringey Council executives while they impose cuts.

All this greed from local councils who pay themselves high saleries follwed by cuts can only fuel the anger of rioters in central london at the weekend - in the anti cuts marches.

Councils will say - we need to pay high salaries to attract the best people into the jobs - but thats just a lame excuse to pay themselves greedy high salaries. Local councils should be mainly about getting rubbish cleared up and done by people who want to help local area so they dont need to pay really high wages - its greed and labour haringey and islington councils are just taking tax payers money with their high wages they pay themselves.

I noticed anti cuts posters down sg rd , stuck on all trees etc opposite wlm pub.

The Duke of Wellington said this about his army at the The Battle of Waterloo in the year 1815:

"Ours is composed of the scum of the earth - the mere scum of the earth."

Perhaps if The Duke of Wellington had been in Stroud Green in 2011 he would have said the same of Haringey and Islington Council or perhaps maybe even some of the people who post on this forum.

    just saying
