Woody Grill

edited May 2007 in Reviews
Currently being shop fitted. Not sure what it is but by the sounds of things it could be a kebab shop or restaurant.

Or a shop that sells grills.

ooh, where'd you see that? near me?

There's a Woody Grill in Camden. Sells kebabs. Surprisingly edible kebabs, considering the location.

    Is Woody's the new Pak?
  • edited 9:41AM
It was opposite the joinery shop, give or take a door number or two.

I think Pak vs Woody will meet at Nandos in a few years time. It'll be messy!

Woody's is going for two pronged approach though with Woody over the other side of the station.

Has Woody News st the station started selling news yet?

I never see anybody in there. They stock the weirdest things, too.

I went past this place a few weeks ago and asked the shopfitters what was going to be there. They said "restaurant" and I immediately kicked myself at the stupidity of my question. Could do with a better kebab shop in SG though, not happy with the options at the moment.

The Woody Grill in camden is my favourite kebab shop in London. If you so wished you could eat them sober. In fact I regularly get off night buses to get a lamb shish from there rather than eat in the poor kebab shops of SG.

I saw the sign yesterday and punched the air and said 'yes'.......I also ranted and raved about it to my flat mate.....he looked at me like I was mad.

they even tell you how long eat dish takes to cook on the menu.....

I know we don't need another kebab shop but hopefully this one will put the some of the others out of business.

A slightly concerning insight into my life there folks.

We're really missing a good kebab shop in SG.

The new "Old Kitchen" (how ironic) on Crouch Hill looks appallingly average.

Best I've ever had is Crystal Kebab on Holloway Road opposite the Odeon.

Crystal is also my kebaberie of choice.

I remember overhearing a couple having an early morning argument on the 19 on their way to work. He was obviously a local and she'd stayed over.

She: "I could really eat a kebab. I wish we were on Edgeware Road, they do the best kebabs there"
He: "The best kebab in London is from Crystal Charcoal Grill on Holloway Road"

At this point, I had to hold back from tapping him on the shoulder, shaking his hand and patting him on the back whilst simultaneously elbowing his argumentative girlfriend in the face.

Instead, they kept ranting at each other and I switched on my Gameboy.
  • Hurrah! We're onto kebabs now.

If memory serves, didn't this used to be a kebab shop until it burnt down in 2002? Or am I mistaken? I remember the kebabs they sold were wrapped in brown paper which got all soggy and mixed up with the meat. Vileness beyond Viledom.

Kings Kebabs are handy but they close at midnight; I can't wait to try Woody's Grill.

Also, I noticed last night that Crouch Hill Express is no longer called Crouch Hill Express. When did this happen? Same kebabs, though. They rotate staff in that place faster than the "elephant's leg" kebab meat.

Yes Woody's Grill used to be a kebab shop ... but it burnt down ... rather surprisingly it was totally destroyed but neither of the buildings either side was damaged (insurance job?)

Later it was turned into a kebab restaurant ... but nobody ever went there so it closed down.

woody grill camden was always my favourite. its the way they wrap em. always wondered if it was related to our woodys. this is GOOD NEWS!

    this forum is so highbrow.

Woddy Grill was open last night, may have been open slightly longer. Menu looked great but I'd already bought dinner. Bizarrely, Woody's itself was shut for a few hours last night.
  • edited 9:41AM
Yes I noticed that too ... I also noticed a sign in the widow announcing Woody's now has a 24 hours license to sell alcohol!

Brilliant! And in other news, I've just finished a lamb kofte (small, single skewer, not technically on their menu but they only charged me £2.50 for it). It was very good, if a little lightly spiced, not quite enough. Crystal Kebab perhaps being slightly too much. It's a fine line. I said to them I'll be back.

being the chav that I am. I went there and had a lamb shish on Monday. They gave it to me half price. the wrapping skills are not up to the standard of their camden branch but the meat was very tender.

they seems to have a bar/service and seating area on the top for sit down dinning. I think I'll just stick to late night drunken snacks.

erm I often get late night booze from woody's they've just decided to start advertising the licence now.

hmm. I need to revaluate my life.....

This seems to have closed down - or at the very least it's been devoid of food and staff all this week - anyone know why?
  • edited 9:41AM
Gas leak, apparently. Should be open again soon.

The bad kebab place on Crouch Hill was victim of "arson" recently. Funny how it should happen when they're not getting much custom isn't it?

Arson - Britain's most faked crime.
  • what's happend to this place?
  • edited November 2011
Ah, Woody Grill. Stopped trading and closed down after environmental health officers found a rats nest under the kebab oven......the place is still a kebab shop, but has a different name and may be run by different people. It's the one next to Sainsburys, Black Sea kebab?
  • There is a shop in Camden that has a temporary Woody Grill sign over the front of it, and has done for a month or so. It has yet to open but they didn't employ the fastest shop fitters when they opened Woody's.    <br>
