DOG SHIT IN ISLINGTON

Comments

  •
Gosh you've come to the right place - dog shit is one of our specialist subjects on here. It might be worth doing a search of the site as you'll find lots of posts on the subject. I'd offer to help with the interview but I think there are others on here with more knowledge of the problem (such as those with children that use the parks in the area, and conscientious dog owners)

  • can't help you meself. some ideas though: the harmsworth animal hospital in sonderburg rd in islington was where rolf harris starred in tv show animal hospital.they have a problem with too many status dogs pitbull type dogs being left with them - google it - might give you some ideas if you go there and talk to them. - an idea for a journalism article would be - go down stroud green rd and interview all the shop keepers - many of them are from foreign countries so write a story about their backgrounds ie what countries they are from and what brought them to the uk etc. there was an article like this done in past . but perhaps a journalist student could put a different twist on it.

  • @gardener-joe:Oh you know, my task is it to interview people and not to just take information from a website. If you have no idea about the work of a journalist, than just don´t comment on things like that!

  • @NicoleP I don't live on the Islington side. Actually I think your best idea might be to do a vox pop, just stop ten people on Stroud Green Road and ask them your questions. Or go into ten different shops with your notebook and do the same. Old fashioned but should do the trick.

  • In that case, it may be worth your while using this forum's search engine, as suggested by @sharybo, and ask the people who have already expressed opinions. I don't think it's fair to settle for those who are trying to be helpful but have specified that they can't answer your questions. Am sure your lecturers should be able to advise you similarly.
• Nicole I'm also on the wrong side to help and as I said, have limited experience on the subject - seems to me that you either need to get out and ask the questions to people on the street as @krappyrubsnif suggests, or if you are determined to do your work from the comfort of your chair, then have a proper search of this site to find the people that have lots to say on the subject and contact them directly with your questions.

  •
Nicole, you will find that there are well established journalists on this forum. Rather than being rude or teaching you how to 'do your job' as a student, they seem to have been offering you some practical advice based on experience.

Any how, if you are determined to do your research this way you might avail yourself of the marvellous search engine built into this forum. Just type the relevant words into the box in the top right hand corner. You will then find out who has the strongest opinions or experience of the matter and be able to contact them.

  • I agree with this Annie. Students these days are very lazy. In my work I often get them writing , calling etc expecting me to advise on animal welfare etc. When I was a student I would have to do the reserach myself and would not dream of pestering vets etc. Chang
  • Erm.....I actually teach journalism. I was only offering a bit of friendly advice. I think NicoleP needs to develop her people skills which will advance her career as an information hunter-gatherer and (more importantly) enable her to climb up the greasy pole without getting kicked off by someone smarmier.
  • Ha ha. Owned. An attitude like this will not get you writing articles in BA's High Life magazine about sports photography.
  •
Forget the dog's shit, a new peril is cat mess. At least a fraction of dog owners do the decent thing and remove the mess with a bag (although I agree it can get very bad especially round Lorne Road, Marriott Road, Eversleigh Road etc which become skidsville in the summer). . The cat variety is on the rise (just look around Florence Road/Lorne Road junction gardens if you can stand it). This does not get picked up as the owners have no idea where their wretched animals are roaming, copulating and spreading germs. Also the councils don't seem to have any policy on it.

Not a nice subject, but I'm sure Nicole will make it worth reading.

Chang

  •
Fox crap is the worst.

  • Nicole appears to have blanked all her posts (and before I could read anything but the initial appeal - spoilsport!), so if she doesn't make it elsewhere in the media, a job tending the Ministry of Truth's Memory Hole surely awaits.
• This problem of dog/animal dung has got much worse in the last fortnight . Maybe the hot weather means ppl are rushing off to sun bathe on parkland walk rather than clean up the mess but Lorne Road should be closed as a skid hazard - not to mention the usual stink. I don't want the police wasting time hiding in bushes to catch evil dog owners but can't we afford a dog warden? In Australia they have them with electric sticks, and that teaches dogs and owners a quick lesson I can tell you. Chang
  • i take that back, i just saw two old ladies with Nisa bags going round picking up lots of dog turds in Lorne Road. this is really welcome community sevice and you dont see it that often in London. I'm not sure if they were the owners of the dogs invovled but they have obviusly decided to take things into their own hands, literally as it turns out. I am going to offer them a cup of tea to say thanks because i can tell you this has been getting beyond a joke round here. chang.
