Pub in the park

  • Great News that this event has been cancelled - Haringey Councillors should never allowed it to go as far as it did. There was strong opposition from local people and park users (over 1000 people signed the local petition) large number formal objections to the planning application. This amount of community support will be hard for even the most arrogant Haringey Councillors to ignore particularly with next year’s election round the corner. Time to curb these huge fenced off events in our park in favour of smaller lower impact activities.

The Acts to be confirmed could be varied so attracting different crouds So I thinks it's sounds good. The risk is that a bigger operation with slicker means of dealing with public consultations and pulling strings at local authorities arrives and is much much worse like park closures etc even if you can't see the positives perhaps this is a way of allowing some of that use and any more is too much.
  • Had the plan not been for the entire summer, I doubt the opposition would have been anywhere near as great. Had the promoter (and council?) not been so greedy, maybe they'd have got somewhere with it.

Other events work well for short periods (I'm thinking circus, funfair) so why not this one too?

Shouldn't a "pop-up" event easily appear and disappear, by definition?
  • @LukeG Totally agree with your point.

We've had sections of the park taken over for a few months now with the super sewer base, and more recently a hub for film crews etc. We had the children's playground closed off for a film shoot for a few days. a while back. Looks like some things are acceptable, but others are not.

I can see why people might be concerned about the pub, but I do know that young people (the most likely beneficiaries of the pub) have had a torrid year, have lost so many social interactions with their peers in a period that can shape them for life, and are likely to suffer the most over the next few years. Would have been nice to allow them an opportunity to socialise in a safe, seated environment and for the park to take some cash. Guess they'll have to make do with warm wine and fosters from hard-hit local small business owners Tesco/Sainsburys and overflowing bins.
