  • Is the pub quiz still on a Thursday?
  • In the end I just got a manicure and no polish, in a mad rush the day before. I hadn't done my homework so needed to stay up late sewing and polish would've been a liability. The only place I could go to in that much of a hurry was United Nail…
  • I feel sorry for the unloved Nic Nic. I've only been there a handful of times, but the beer was decent and I've had far less enjoyable evenings in overcrowded loud obnoxious trendy pubs. The lighting is very bad and it has the feel of walking in on …
  • @andy I will pay you in tombola tickets
  • Now I want to open a shop called Village Fete... or maybe set up a permanent home for Crafty Pint there... Or maybe I have found the 2 bed flat I'm looking for, if I front it with a pretend shop that no-one ever will want to go in. What would I nee…
  • Yes I like the 50s party idea too. If it's not on a day that I'm already doing stuff, the Stapleton would be very welcome to borrow all my red white and blue + jubilee bunting and decorations.
  • Hi Philip. I think we're both going to struggle to find places that match what we have been paying. It's a fierce market out there. Good luck with your hunting!
  • Thanks! Yes the zs say I'm probably a decade or two over the hill for Hard Az Nailz. Thankfully it only has to last a day. I can manage that can't I...? Oh dear. I will prepare an assistant to attach cuffs to my wrists (like you put on a poorly pe…
  • Very little difference really. It's meant to be a mixture of anecdotes about how the Victorians used bunting to celebrate the Jubilee & what they would have done, plus a version that you can do at home now. They mainly used brightly coloured pla…
  • Excellent, thanks. It's a Jubilee related how-to video on making bunting Victorian style, for the Historic Royal Palaces. I'm hoping I'll want to share it once it's up there. Today they were talking about using an autocue linked to an ipad. Magic an…
  • Oh you really are brilliant! Thank you. Giraffe pattern is tempting, but definitely out. Nail varnish will already be slightly incongruous with my outfit as I'm supposed to be wearing something with a Victorian influence. I don't want to look like …
  • Oh and I really miss Stepping Out. There's another one up on Tottenham High Road, if you can be bothered to go up there. Huge room of furniture out the back. I think the Seven Sisters Rd one went to Waltham X or somewhere when Tesco moved in.
  • miss annie you would have to wrestle me out of the way for that basket. I also like the fish ornament in the large room. It's my favourite pub too. The atmosphere, beer, food and look of the place - all really good.
  • What kind of curry war? Onion bhajis in sling shots, boiling Chicken Phall tipped from windows?
  • You can buy copies of old maps from Islington Local History Centre in Finsbury Library. There's a pdf about them on this page
  • Ooo I didn't know! Thank you Reg that's brilliant. But now I have Spandau Ballet ear worming me. No thanks for that.
  • The southern slavery connotations of the name seem a bit unappetising to me, but if people want to queue up for that greasy factory farmed crap good luck to them. It's looking pretty popular with the half price food right now. If fried chicken fans …
  • I like living on Tollington Park but it is very busy, and one of those streets that has such a lot of foot traffic you get people popping up in the bushes of your front garden, nicking things out of the leccy cupboard, parking on your drive, going t…
  • That pub has got my name on it

  • What digistu said. *me too
  • @ParkTheatreDOD there's a typo in the email you posted today. development@parktheatre.co.uk is the right one I think. I've sent some money. Looks like we're not too far away now.
  • Hi, did you decide on a venue yet? Hope you managed to appoint the officials.

  • Ahhh I was blessed with the singing postman for the first time this week on Tollington Park, and he came back for an encore with another parcel later. He was very sweet about my dishevelled appearance. Anyone remember Everton? He was the Rasta who …
  • I've only just seen this, and now I'm out of town. Will definitely buy some when I'm back though. 'Stroud Green.Org Goes to Italy' - yes please! It looks beautiful.
  • I can see why this place is going down well, they come across as nice people and very serious about the coffee. In a good way - not a Hoxton poseur kind of way. Friendly shops in the neighbourhood trying hard to please and listening to their custome…

  • I missed them in the Dairy too, but caught up finally after checking email. The Sugar Lounge worked out ok. That frying smell really does get bad at the back though. How about the highly unglamorous Nic Nic on Ferme Park Road? We would proba…

  • Yes that 'This is London after all' comment reminded me a bit of the people who used to live next door to me. They'd roll in at 2 or 3am from their bar jobs and party loudly in their back yard for hours afterwards. If I asked them to keep it down th…

  • Thanks for the reminder! I've been meaning to go there for ages.
  • Shops around the Tollington Park bit of Hornsey Rd have always struggled, but the mini supermarkets have survived ok. I'd hate to see a Tesco chase them off.
  • @wisteria53 Thanks for that, and good to see you today!
