There are tips on how to make links and images work on this link here.

The trick is to use the markdown button below. Or if you're that sort of person, you can enter HTML directly and select the HTML tab.

Unfortunately, you can't upload photos directly. You can use a free photo account like Flickr or Photobucket and make links from there. Most sites have got an 'embed' code you can use.

For example, look at this video of a friendly chat on the Stroud Green Road. On the middle-right of the page, it says 'embed'. You can copy that code straight into a post, select HTML and it will appear on the site.

ALT-KEYS For foreign characters on a PC keyboard, hold down the Alt key while typing the numbers on the numbers pad. Laptops will usually need to press a “function” key to enable the number pad.

i'll look into that. I thought i'd turned them all off, but a halfway limbo of no image but space provided is odd. I should at least do one or the other right?

hehe, yeah. although i like the idea of being in limbo..

can't get it to work !

  3.

This site has some good markdown tips

  4.
Markdown won't (as far as I know) allow you to make an image a link, but you can use HTML for this:

    Code:

    Replace [] with <>

    [a href="THE_LINK_TARGET"][img src="THE_IMAGE_URL.JPG" /][/a]
  5.
PS - for your other thread:

    Replace [] with <>

    [a href="http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/event.php?eid=105780275702"]
    [img src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/object3/576/13/n105780275702_6300.jpg" /]
    [/a]

not in the version on here, use html format for posts needing that. Don't think basic markdown covers it but there are extensions that do, we just don't use them.

I think one of the examples in the instructions has a slight mistake in it (I think it's < instead of [ at some point, the problem is I forget every time what the mistake is and have to re-learn it each time I create a link).

Found some more symbols that work in posts, just for fun:
