Making links and images
  • There are tips on how to make links and images work on this link here.

The trick is to use the markdown button below. Or if you're that sort of person, you can enter HTML directly and select the HTML tab.

Unfortunately, you can't upload photos directly. You can use a free photo account like Flickr or Photobucket and make links from there. Most sites have got an 'embed' code you can use.

For example, look at this video of a friendly chat on the Stroud Green Road. On the middle-right of the page, it says 'embed'. You can copy that code straight into a post, select HTML and it will appear on the site.

  • ALT-KEYS For foreign characters on a PC keyboard, hold down the Alt key while typing the numbers on the numbers pad. Laptops will usually need to press a “function” key to enable the number pad.

  • can't get my forum icon to appear... a .png should be ok, right?
  • i'll look into that. I thought i'd turned them all off, but a halfway limbo of no image but space provided is odd. I should at least do one or the other right?

  • hehe, yeah. although i like the idea of being in limbo..
  • er, i changed it to image
  • can't get it to work !

  • This site has some good markdown tips

  • Markdown won't (as far as I know) allow you to make an image a link, but you can use HTML for this:

    image

    Code:

    Replace [] with <>

    [a href="THE_LINK_TARGET"][img src="THE_IMAGE_URL.JPG" /][/a]
  • PS - for your other thread:

    Replace [] with <>

    [a href="http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/event.php?eid=105780275702"]
    [img src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/object3/576/13/n105780275702_6300.jpg" /]
    [/a]
  • for an image in markdown its:

    ![name](link)

Its at the bottom with Kermit example in the instructions.
  • Is there a way to make the image a link using markdown?
  • not in the version on here, use html format for posts needing that. Don't think basic markdown covers it but there are extensions that do, we just don't use them.
  • I think one of the examples in the instructions has a slight mistake in it (I think it's < instead of [ at some point, the problem is I forget every time what the mistake is and have to re-learn it each time I create a link).

  • Found some more symbols that work in posts, just for fun:

    ♪ ♩ ♬ ♫ ♭ ♮ ♯ ◊ ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦ ☺ ☻ ☼ ♀ ♂ ○ ● ◘ ◙

  • Kate, this article in the Islington Gazette goes into a lot of detail about why the plans were rejected and specifically mentions the amount of student housing proposed in your plan.

  • I know I am dyspraxic[ technically dyslexic] at MA level but what is all this about ?

Anyhow my road movies concerning regeneration of kings x called e_SCAPE is on utubee9773165 or artsreview
  • The 'road movie' can be found here, and it's one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Possibly in a good way. http://www.youtube.com/user/9773165#p/a/u/1/XnwwG8QHf24

  • Friend of a friend made this one, I think it's great!

  • I though dyspraxia was where your brian doesn't know where your body is.

Paloma from the Only Way is Essex is dyspraxic.

  • You watch TOWIE tosscat?

  • Of course, doesn't everyone?

  • I don't. I spent my teenage years in Essex, it's severe deja vu for me. They hadn't yet invented vajazzles in those days though.

  • Please, Please Help me as I am quite new to this site. How do I post a comment when the comments box is full? How do I continue? Do I need to open a new box?
  • @ Cookie: Are you sure you are at the last comment and not just the bottom of the first page of the thread? I sometimes get to the end and need to click on the next page to read the 101-105 batch of entries....

David and Andy should be able to say if there is an entry limit or word count; I think it is quite large. There certainly have been very long comments before (see the Stroud Green badge thread: http://www.stroudgreen.org/discussion/2370/viewing-the-stroud-green-badge-at-the-victoria-albert-museum/).

My other suggestion is that you try an alternate browser to the one you're using and see if that makes any difference.
