  • How does it smell?
  • My girlfriend and I like to refer to this as 'Finsbury Park freecycle'. Anything goes in minutes.
  • Not exactly what I was hoping for. One big pound shop to replace three small ones.
  • This sounds quite promising. The Dogstar in Brixton and The Bowls Club in Balham are both nice, interesting places.
  • UCKG had a big, big presence outside the Seven Sisters Rd Tescos around Christmas - lots of bucket shaking and carol singing. It made me feel very uncomfortable, as 'Universal Church of the Kingdom of God' was written in very small letters on their …
  • ... and although my palate might not be the most refined, I thought the pizzas were pretty good, and will definitely be ordering from them again.

  • I am going to take the plunge tonight and get a delivery from Venezia. Medi, if you are reading this (which I'm guessing you are), it's your one chance to impress....

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: the sandwiches are way too small.
  • I think Petek is getting a bit sloppy. They bring the main courses out almost as soon as you get the starters, the portions of houmous are now tiny, and the overally quality of cooking and ingredients is slipping a little.
  • We went to Del Parc last weekend and had a great evening. Really excellent food, especially the manchego cheese dish, and the figs, ham and goats cheese. The front of house guy is really friendly and helpful. Good wine. And you get to see the chef c…
  • I've had bad experiences dealing with D and D rental - an incredibly rude woman. For my money, Morris and Morris are the best local estate agent. Trustworthy guys, from what I can tell.... though maybe that's their trick.....
  • @optimo75 Yes, thanks. I thought at first that you were referring to the people who live and hang around the area as 'scum', and I was going to object to that.
  • @optimo75 'the atmosphere of scum' - I'm interested in what you mean by this.
  • I'm going to Latitude. Weather forecast: rain.
  • There's also a place on Mountgrove Rd on the Finsbury Park/Highbury border. I haven't been in, but it looks like it reconstitutes old bikes and I imagine it does repairs too.

  • I'll let you all know once I'm cured.

  • It's nothing lurid or exciting, I promise. Thank you mamamuti. I love this site.

  • Yes, it was only there for a few weeks, near the Seven Sisters Rd end of the street. It wasn't very good. The modern antiques place further down Blackstock Rd does not appear to be doing a roaring trade, although there is some nice stuff in ther…
  • Yes, they're Algerian, and many of them use the mosque. Reflecting this, the street is busier at certain times of day and on certain days. I don't think many live locally. I've always assumed that those who hang out in the street don't have enough m…
  • It is McDonalds as in 'Big Mac, fries to go'.
in Dotori - amazing Comment by ben May 2009
  • The owner told us last week that he asked McDonalds (who own the boarded up area between the 12 Pins and Rowan's) if he could move into a section of their site, but they said no. I know nothing more.

  • Hey! What about the one I started? http://www.stroudgreen.org/discussion/983/dotori-review/#Item_0
  • I doubt it will be that easy, unless your freeholder is a bit clueless, but it may be worth a try. There is a formula for working out what the freehold will cost, based on a valuation of the property. So there is a bit of grey area, but not a gr…
  • I've just done this, so I know a bit about it, but it's quite technical, and your best bet would be to contact a specialist solicitor about it to talk it through. I can recommend someone if you want. The cost will depend on a number of factors, t…
  • The guy who runs Dotori told us that the retail unit of the residential flats opposite (next to the 12 Pins) is owned by McDonalds, and has been for some time. They've just never chosen to develop it. I'm surprised, as I'd have thought that it woul…
  • Which, in your view, is the best around Grand Parade?
  • Thanks for the guidance, I think we are sorted (although still quite cold).

  • I assumed Cardiff fans. There were an incredible number of them outside the Twelve Pins and the Blackstock. You could hear them singing all the way down Blackstock Rd. I don't think they'll be doing all that much more singing on the way home.
  • It's definitely still open. I went past it on the bus this evening.
  • There is also (or there was) a gym in the City North complex. I went along once having seen someone working out in there from the station platform. It turned out that it was a gym for training gym trainers, or something like that. They told me that …
